Morrow County District
Attorney Dave Allen has
conducted the following business
during the months of July and
August:
Cindy Irene Marshall was
found guilty July 12 of
frequenting a place where
controlled substances are used, a
class A Misdemeanor, and
sentenced to six months in jail,
suspended, two years' bench
probation, 80 hours community
service, drug evaluation and
treatment, if necessary, and
ordered to pay fines, fees and
assessments of $369.
Kurt Lee Cate was found
guilty on August 5 of driving
while revoked, a class C Felony
and sentenced to 18 months'
formal probation with 80 hours
community service and ordered
to pay fines,
fees and
assessments of $724.
Claude Forrest Jacobs was
found guilty August 5 of assault
in the fourth degree, a class A
Misdemeanor and sentenced to
180 days in jail, suspended, 18
months' bench probation, 80
hours
community
service,
complete alcohol treatment and
evaluation
and
follow-up
treatment as directed, anger
management
counseling,
prohibited from further assaultive
behavior, having contact with the
victims and consuming or
possessing alcoholic beverages
and ordered to pay fines, fees and
assessments of $1310 with $500
suspended.
Juan Luis Villegas was found
guilty August 5 of failure to
appear in the first degree, a class
C Felony and sentenced to 24
months' formal probation, 80
hours community service, be
subject to the standard drug
package and ordered to pay fines,
fees and assessments of $469.
Villegas was also found guilty
August 5 of frequenting a place
where controlled substances are
used, a class A Misdemeanor,
and sentenced to 90 days in jail,
suspended on the condition that
he comply with all probation
conditions, 24 months' bench
probation, ordered to forfeit the
weapon seized as a result of this
incident and pay fines, fees and
assessments of $ 119.
Michael Sean Wilson on
August 12 was found in violation
of his probation and was
sentenced to six months in
custody and one year of post­
prison supervision.
Colt signups set

Heppner Colt football sign-ups
for fifth and sixth graders will be
held at the Colt football equipment
room at the old middle school
building on Aug. 30-31 from 5:30-
6:30 p.m. The fee to play is $20
per player.
The equipment will be checked
out at this time so players and par­
ents need to attend. TTie first prac­
tice will be held after school on
Wednesday, Sept. 1.

The 1949 Fair and Rodeo Court are among honorees at the Queen's Luncheon held Saturday, August 21,
following the Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Parade, in which the 1949 court rode on
horseback. Pictured left to right are Queen Shirley Wilkinson Rugg, and Princesses Faye Cutsforth, Betty
Walker Edwards, Dorothy Wiglesworth Graham and Ingrid Hermann Crawford. The court also plans to ride

anniversary of the beginning of
the shared ministry between
Valby, All Saints' and Hope.
They plan to have special
music and will also celebrate
Holy Communion "The Lord's
Table is open to all who wish to
partake," said Pastor Dick Metz.
A potluck dinner will follow
worship.
The congregations extend a
welcome to anyone who wishes
to attend.

both youth and adults. All
instruments are welcome and
oboe, bassoon, tuba and strings
are especially needed. Players
wanting to audition should be
prepared to play a scale and a
piece of their choice.
Rehearsals will begin on
September 17 and will be held
on Fridays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at
the Heppner Jr. High band room.
Private instruction for strings
and woodwind instruments will
also be available. To schedule

Obituaries
Reta Hazel Hvnd
Reta Hazel Hynd, 87, of The
Dalles, a former Morrow County
resident, died Sunday, August 15,
1999, at Columbia Basin Nursing
Home in The Dalles.
Graveside memorial service for
Mrs. Hynd was held at the Hepp­
ner Masonic Cemetery in Hepp­
ner on Saturday, August 21,1999.
She was bom August 31, 1911, at
Ava, Missouri, to Fred and Laura
Jackson Pettyjohn. She was five
years old when the family moved
to Morrow County from Missouri.
She attended schools at Cecil,
Morgan and Rock Creek, then
attended and graduated from lone
High School.
On June 8, 1932, she married
Jack Hynd Jr., at lone. The couple
lived at Weston for seven years
and also lived at Glendale, Cali­
fornia, for a time before returning
to Morrow County. They lived at
Cecil before moving to Pendleton
in 1972. In July of 1982, the couple
moved to The Dalles. Mr. Hynd
died in August 1982.
Survivors include daughter.
Bonnie Jo Steinke, and son. Rich­
ard L. Hynd, both of The Dalles;
brothers, Ellis Pettyjohn of Hepp­
ner, Jim Pettyjohn of Portland and
Clyde Pettyjohn of Newburg; a
sister, Gertrude Webb of Ontario;
two grandchildren and four great­
grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Hospice of the Gorge.

daughter Kailea Michelle was
bom to Dan and Mindy Samp'e
of Bend, Oregon on August 4,
1999. The baby weighed 9 lbs.
4oz. and was 21" long.
Her grandparents are Rosco
and Kay Rene Qualls and Randy
Sample, all of Heppner. and Jan
and Aaron Tam of Bend. Great-
grandparents are Donnie Reed of
Heppner, Vic and Jane Yahr of
Boardman and Bill and Donna
Towry of Madras.
