Football and volleyball daily
doubles for grades nine-12 will
begin on August 23 at Heppner
High School.
Football daily doubles will be
at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday
and Tuesday, August 23 and 24.
Daily doubles for Wednesday
through Friday, August 25-27,
will be at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The first HHS football game
will be Friday, Sept. 3, vs. Scio
at home at 7:30 p.m.
Volleyball daily doubles will
be as follows: Monday, August
23, 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.;
Tuesday, August 24. 8-10 a.m.,
6-8 p.m.; Wednesday, August
25, 7-9 a.m., varsity 4-6 p.m., JV
and C teams 6-8 p.m.; Thursday,
August 26, 8-10 a.m., varsity 4-6
p.m. and JV and C teams 6-8
p.m.; and Friday, August 27, 8-
10 a.m., with evening practice to
be announced.
The first volleyball game will
be the Riverside Tournament in
Boardman for varsity players on
Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m.
Practice for grades seven and
eight will begin after school
starts.
Fire precaution level drops
The industrial fire precaution
level has dropped to a Level 1 on
the Umatilla Nation Forest
(Heppner, North Fork John Day,
Walla Walla and Pomcry Ranger
Districts).
Level 1 allows firewood cutting
and other operations to continue
on all parts of the Umatilla
National Forest. Woodcutters are
also required to carry a shovel
and eight oz. capacity fire
extinguisher. Power saws must
be equipped with an approved
spark arrestor.

Heppner applies for DEQ
permit renewal required to monitor the creek for
The city of Heppner has
applied for a renewal of the city’s
national pollutant discharge
elimination system permit to
operate its municipal wastewater
collection and treatment system,
according to a news release from
the Oregon Department of
Environmental Quality.
The city operates a trickling
filter treatment system that treats
domestic wastewater from the
community. The city discharges
treated effluent to Willow Creek
and treated wastewater on the
golf course. The city also applies
treated biosolids on nearby
agricultural lands.
