Jacksons to celebrate 50th anniversary Norton-Smith Ruth Norton and Oustin Smith Tom and Sue Norton, Heppner, and Dale and Marilyn Smith, Hermiston, announce the engagement of their children, Ruth Norton and Dustin Smith. The bride-elect is a graduate of Heppner High School and the Blue Mountain Community College nursing program. She is employed with the Rose Harbor Assisted Living Facility in Hermiston. Smith is a graduate of Hermiston High School and the Blue Mountain Community College civil engineering program. He is employed with the Medical Center Pharmacy in Pendleton. The couple plan a September 4, 1999, wedding on the beach at Seaside, Oregon. Shrine game planned Aug. 14 The J a c k so n s,1949 Wilbur and Dorothy Jackson Wilbur and Dorothy Jackson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 29. Friends and family are invited to attend. A potluck will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall in Heppner. They request no gifts. The Jacksons were married at Gresham on Sept. 4. 1949. They lived in Heppner for one year and later moved to Gresham, where they made their home. Wilbur worked at Reynolds Metal Co. at Troutdale until he retired in 1985. They then re­ turned to Heppner. The Jacksons have a daughter, Annette Richards of Pendleton; a son, Gary Jackson and his wife, of Gresham; a grandson, Brandon, who is in the service at 29 Palms, CA.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer of Portland and Anita Richards of Pendleton. All seniors and their parents are invited to attend to help plan the senior graduation trip and fund raising activities. all of the game officials volunteer their time and expenses. A parade will be held in Baker City at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pregame activities start at 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. kick-off. The usual beef auction will be held at halftime. Kelly Porter of Baker City will be queen this year. Kelly, 15, is the daughter of Billy and Carol On Baby Shoe Bronzing Porter. She will be a freshman at Baker City Senior High School. Kelly says her favorite subjects are social studies and language arts. She also enjoys choir. She is an active participant in track events with emphasis on shot put. "Kelly's medical history covers the entirety of her brief lifetime and her association with the Portland Unit demonstrates her courage and tenacity and the degree of professional and compassionate care she received at Shnners," said a Shrine game news release. The Shrine of North America is the worlds' largest philanthropy and the game in Baker City is the second largest fund raising event in support of Shrine hospitals, said the release. School policy requires all seventh graders, sophomores and students new to the district to have physical examinations to be eligible to participate m athletics or cheerleading at any of the district schools. The physicals are free. Due to the very hot weather there were fewer than the usual number of people at the Senior dinner July 28. Members of the Lutheran Church served. The menu for Aug. 11 is baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green salad, jellied vegetable salad, zucchini cheese bread and blueberry crisp. Members of the United Methodist Church will serve. Desserts and beverages were served all day Friday at the Senior Center An enchilada dinner was served in the evening and bingo played later. All proceeds went to the Ministerial Association . Exercise class was held Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. and cards were played Tuesday and Friday afternoon at the center. The seniors will be serving ice cream cones at the fair this year. Volunteers are needed to help in the booth in two-hour shifts, Wednesday, Aug. 18, through Saturday, Aug. 21. Morrow County Clerk Barbara Bloodsworth officiated at the ceremony and Heppner Mayor Bob Jepsen and his wife, Suzanne, were witnesses. Also present were Jordan Hatfield, seven, and Andrew Hatfield, three, sons, of the bride. The bride is the daughter of Steve Pence and Donna Stephens, Prineville. She is a homemaker. The groom is the son of Jack and Donna Breazeale, Hawaii. He is employed as the Heppner City manager. Players have been selected to fill the 30 man squad for both teams and there is also a 30-man alternate squad to fill any vacancy that might occur in the first team line-up. Derek Gunderson from Heppner will play in the game. Player pickup will be at the Valu-Inn in Oregon City, on August 6. After a visit to the Portland Shrine Hospital, the troop will stop in The Dalles for lunch and then travel on to Eastern Oregon University in La Grande where physicals will be given and a seven-day training camp will follow. Heading the lineup of game officials this year will be Todd Bames of Astoria as referee Assisting him will be Ed Betts ot Astoria as umpire. Joe Gray ot LaGrande. will be the linesman and John Wallin of Corvallis will be line judge. Back judge will be Leon McGuire of Baker City and Doug Bolton of Salem will act as side judge.
