Road Construction
Status Report
Notice to the citizens who
utilize and enjoy the Willow
Creek (Coat Mine Grade) area:
The
US.
Dept. of
Transportation lists its planned
construction
activities on
Willow Creek Road for the week
of Monday, July 5:
Tidewater Contractors, Inc., •
has been placing maintenance
aggregate on the Shaw Grade
Detour Route, preparing the
roadway for the summer season,
the aggregate is being hauled
from the Skinner Creek Quarry
site located near milepost 8 on
FS-53 road from Heppner to
Ukiah. Watch for the truck signs
near this location. The dust
control agent is scheduled to be
placed on the road on
Wednesday, July 7.
There will be some truck
traffic on the FS-53 road
(highway to Ukiah) between the
Penland Lake Road and the 20
mph comer for another couple of
weeks. Observe the flaggers and
watch
for
truck
traffic.
Tidewater has completed the
removal of the waste material
from the slope failure that
occurred this past winter. They
will start replacing the material,
in the failed area on Tuesday,
July 6, as well as start preparing
the sub-grade for base aggregate.
Emergency access through the
project will be maintained
throughout the construction
season.
Willow Creek Road will
remain open, to local traffic
only, as far as Cutsforth Park.
The park will remain open
through the normal season. The
detour route through Shaw
Creek Road to the four comers,
to Penland Lake and Ukiah, is
and will remain open to all
traffic.
During the 1999 construction
season, Willow Creek Road
(Coal Mine Grade) (FS 53 Road)
will remain closed to through
traffic, from Cutsforth Park to
the intersection of FS Roads
5350(Texas Pit Road).
Watch for log truck traffic,
travelers and campers, and
observe the warning signs,
including the speed limit, on the
Shaw Creek Road Detour Route
and observe the barricades at
both ends of the construction
zone. Have a safe summer and
remember that the barricaded
road closures are for the
traveling public's safety.

Gun proficiency
class scheduled
Blue Mountain Community
College has scheduled a
Handgun Proficiency Class for
Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m.-4
p.m. The class will be held at the
Boardman Ambulance Hall and
the Boardman Firing Range.
This class fulfills the
proficiency requirements needed
to obtain a concealed weapons
permit. Safety is stressed and a
firing session (which is required)
is held at the conclusion of the
course.
Anyone with a felony
conviction is ineligible for the
class. Students must provide
their own ammunition for the
firing session.
Cost of the class is $25 tuition
plus a $10 lab fee, payable to
BMCC. Tuition for students age
60 and over is $11 plus the $10
lab fee. A minimum of six
students are needed to hold the
class and pre-registration is
required.

A Blue Mountain Community
College orientation is scheduled
for Tuesday, July 27, from 10
a.m.-12 noon at the Morrow
County School District office in
Lexington. This session is
designed for adult students
interested in attending college
either for the first time or as a
returning student.
Financial aid information and
general college counseling will
be
available.
Interested
participants should bring all
previous college transcripts with
them to be reviewed by the staff.
Placement testing may be
available later in the afternoon if
enough people are interested.
There is no charge for this
informational
session
but
students must pre-register by
calling Anne Morter, South
Morrow
County
BMCC
coordinator at 422-7040.

The Dynamic Doggies 4-H Club

The Enterprise 4-H Dog Club,
"The Classy Canines," held an
open dog show which was
attended by many of Morrow
County Dog 4-Her's.
"The club did fantastic" said
club leader Tina Edwards. "I am
so proud of all of them."
In attendance were: Jessica
Wainwright and her dog Albee,
Kim Morris and Nipper, Chelsey
and Aftan Betsinger and their
dogs Meggey and Nick, Krystal
Temple and her dog Shelia,
Amber Patton and her dog Tia,
Ra Chell and Tyler Key and
their dogs Honey and Kelo, and
William and Whitney Wehrli
and their dogs Teddy and Pepper
(Pepper came to look).
The club brought home a bunch
of ribbons: Kim Morris got third
place in intermediate obedience;
Krystal Temple got first place in
intermediate obedience and
second place in intermediate
showmanship; Amber Patton got
third place in junior obedience;
Ra Chell Key got third place in
junior showmanship; Whitney
Wehrli received second place in
Tourism
committee
sub novice (open class)
obedience; and Aftan Betsinger
won third in sub novice open
class.
The judging and competition
was tough and ribbons were only
presented to the top four
contestants, said a spokesperson
Each Dynamic Doggie member
placed highly in each class
contended.
The entire group enjoyed and
learned from the show a lot. but
the high point of the show was
when the mothers and Tina
Edwards had to show the
children's dogs at the very end of
the show. "We'll all be giggling
for months ahead remember how
wild Molly performed for Tina,"
they said. Overall the mothers
did very well. "My mom got
fourth place ribbon because I
trained the dog so well," club
President Jessica Wainwright
exclaimed.
The first place ribbon was
given to Karen Temple with
daughter Krystal's dog Shelia;
second place went to Ginger
Patton with her daughter
Amber's dog Tia; third place
went to Brenda Key who used
her daughter RaChell's dog
Honey; fourth place was won by
Stacy Wainwright; and, bringing
up the rear using her own dog,
Molly, was club leader Tina
Edwards.
The Morrow County Tourism
Committee
will
meet
Wednesday, July 21, at 3 p.m. at
the current Port of Morrow
administrative Building, the old
Boardman Depot, 1 Marine

various locations in Morrow
County. Meetings are open to
all interested persons. The fall
meeting will be at Beecher's
Restaurant in lone.

at WCCC on July 5.
"All the participants enjoyed
fine weather, good company and
even better food," said co-hosts

The format was a random team
scramble with two special
events. First place for the gross

Edmundson. There was a tie for
