The Country Store opens at 10 a.m. with the auction, by Triad Auctioneering, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The
silent auction begins at 10:15 a.m., with the bids open at 12:20 p.m.
The event will feature antiques, crafts home-baked foods, handmade items, "new to you" items, a snack
shack, fish pond, books and toys, to name a few.
The pit barbecued beef dinner will be served starting at 12:30 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $5 for adults, $2.50
for children six-12 years old and preschool children will eat free.

Good things come in little packages
Theresa Hams of lone is such a
little bit of a thing that you
wouldn't think she could lift a
fly. Boy, are you wrong.
Hams, at 117 pounds and 5T ',
can lift 248-3/4 lbs. dead weight
and she has the trophies to prove
it.
Hams, 38, won first in the
women's open in dead weight
lifting and first in the women's
sub-master (age category),
setting the Oregon State record,
the national record and the world
record for her weight division in
dead weight lifting at the
Budweiser-7-Up World Record
Breakers
competition
held
Saturday, May 22, in Richland,
WA.
Hams, who works at Beecher's
Restaurant in lone, decided she
wanted to get in shape last
November, but has only been
lifting weights for the last 10
weeks. Her coach at the Training
Station in Hermiston, where she
has been lifting, told her she had
the genetics to "lift big" and,
indeed, she has—very big.
"At first I was doing it just for
me," said Hams. "But now I'm
obsessed. I had never competed
at anything before. I was just
going for the experience. It was
something different, something
new ."
Next Hams plans to go on to the
World
Record
Breakers
competition in Portland. She was
invited
to
the
national
competition in Dallas, Texas, in
June, but says her kids, Katie, 13,
Paul, nine, and Matthew, seven
and a half, were too young and
she didn't want to leave them
Pool parties
now available
at WCWP
The Willow Creek Water Park
now has pool party packages and
private pool rental available.
The pool party package for the
guest of honor plus five guests,
party favors, ice cream and
lifeguard supervised games and
swimming is available for $35;
the pool party package plus,
including the guest of honor plus
five guests, party favors, ice
cream, lifeguard supervised
games and swimming, pizza and
beverages is available for $50.
Cost for extra guests for either
package is $5 per person.
Private pool rental for one to 50
people is $75 for the first hour
and $50 for each additional hour;
and for 50 or more people, $100
for the first hour and $75 for each
additional hour.
The pool is available for
private parties on Saturdays and
Sundays from 5:30-9 p.m.

The Morrow County Health
District's regular board meeting
will be held on Monday, June 7,
at 7 p.m. at the Pioneer Memorial
Home Health Conference Roorq.
Agenda items include the
Willow Creek Valley Assisted
Living Facility, the clinic report,
ambulance report, computer
update and the Home Health
policy on assisted suicide.
Also scheduled are a time for
public comment and an executive
session concerning physician

Hams lifts 248-3/4 pounds for state, national and world titles

think? "My kids love it. They
took my trophies to school for
show and tell. You know how
kids say, 'My dad can beat up
your dad?' They can say, "My
mom can beat up your dad,"'
laughs Hams. "My husband
wasn't real sure about it at first,
but he kind of got into it."
While at the competition in
Richland, several people came
up to Hams and asked if they
could tram her. She also met
Phillip Daniels from the Seattle
Seahawks who was competing.
"It is such a man's domain,"
comments Hams. "The men there
don't treat you very well. The
women were very supportive, but
the men weren't very supportive
of the women-or of each other."
Lexington mayor resigns

Sheirbon went on to say the
town is facing several projects
such as a major water project, a
new town charter, a new bridge,
a major fire department
upgrade, a sewer system study,

new
comprehensive plan, a new park
and a complete restructuring of
the town business office, as
facing the town council in the
time ahead.
Sheirbon said his resignation
would become official at the
June council meeting, and
added that he would remain as
mayor until a replacement can
be found, which he hoped
would be by July.
The city council was planning
an emergency meeting for
Tuesday night.
Saying he does not have time
to devote to the job, Lexington
Mayor Bill Sheirbon resigned
May 23.
In a letter to councilmembers
Sheirbon said that a recent
promotion at his job, and the
coming busy schedule for the
city have made it clear that he
does not have time to devote to
the mayor's position.
"Town business requires me
to do some activity for the town
almost every day," Sheirbon
said in his letter. "It is
increasingly eating up time
from my employment that I do
not have to give at this time. I
stated at a recent council
meeting that if I had known
things would change at work for
me I would not have run for
mayor during this last election.
My employment comes first
and 1 can no longer ignore the
conflict between the two
positions," Sheirbon stated.
In addition, he pointed out
growing problems on the
council as another reason for his
resignation: "With the town
recorder position in limbo and a
major water project on the
horizon, I realize this is not the
best time to change town
leadership.
However, the
division
among
council
members as to how business
should be conducted for the
good of the town, council
members' lack of respect for
each other, newer council
members
reluctance
to
coordinate their activities with
