Mustang JVs win two

The Heppner Mustang JV
baseball team easily beat the
first two opponents of the
season. The Mustangs traveled
to Athena on Monday, April 12,
and defeated the Weston-
McEwen Tiger-Scots, 17-6,
banging out 14 hits.
On Monday, April 19, the
visiting Wahtonka Eagles were
thrashed, 29-2, as the Mustangs
clubbed 15 hits including three
homeruns.
At Weston-McEwen, Michael
McCabe hit a two rbi single and
Zach Fabian had a two rbi
double as the Mustangs jumped
out to a 7-0 lead.
The Mustangs scored five
more in the second as Fabian
had an rbi single, Kelly Paullus
an rbi single and Mark
McElligott a two-rbi double.
After the Tiger-Scots came
back with five runs of their own
in the bottom of the second, the
Mustangs took control again as
Travis Bellaniy had an rbi
double and Paullus a two rbi
double.
Fabian ended up going 3 for 4
with a double and three rbi's,
Paullus went 3 for 4 with two
doubles and 3 rbi's, McElligott
had a double and four rbi's and
Bellamy went 3 for 3 with a
double. Stefan Matheny, went
2 for 3 with two stolen bases.
McCabe picked up the win on
the mound with Bellamy
pitching well in relief, allowing
just one hit in three innings and
striking out three.
The Mustangs put away the
Wahtonka Eagles early as
McElligott hit a grand slam

homerun and Paullus had a two
rbi doubles in the first inning to
post a 12-0 lead after one.
Leading 13-0 in the bottom of
the third, Paullus led off with a
long double off the left field
wall and later scored on a two
rbi single by Bellamy. Josh Hill
had a two rbi double and
Paullus hit a two run homerun.
After the Eagles finally got on
the board in the fourth, the
Mustangs tacked on seven more
as Travis Bellamy had a three
rbi triple and Cody Bellamy hit
a three-run homerun.
Travis Bellamy ended up
going 3 for 3 with a triple and
six rbi's. Paullus also went 3 for
3 with two doubles and a
homerun and five rbi's,
McElligott went 2 for 3 with the
grand slam and Fabian went 2
for 4 with 3 rbi’s.
Dylan Pettyjohn pitched the
first two innings before giving
way to Travis Bellamy for the
final three innings, combining
for a two-hitter.

committed four errors.

baseball team used good
pitching and timely hitting to
sweep the visiting Heppner
Mustangs, 2-0 and 8-2, on
Friday, April 16.

The Heppner Mustang
baseball team opened their
Columbia Basin Conference
East division play with an 11-1
win over the visiting Stanfield
Tigers on Tuesday, April 20.
David Bates allowed just two
hits, no walks and struck out six
in four innings. Cory Bennetto
pitched a scoreless fifth inning
in relief.
The Mustangs jumped out
quick in the first scoring six
runs. Michael McCabe reached
on a fielder's choice and moved
to third on Allan Gribskov’s
double. Bennetto walked to
load the bases followed by Tim
Dickenson receiving a walk to
force in a run. Zach Fabian
then singled to score two runs.
Mark McElligott doubled, Bates
walked and Derek Gunderson
hit a 2 rbi double.
Heppner tacked on another
run in second as Bennetto
singled and came home on a
Dickenson double.
The Tigers scored their only
run in the top half of third but
the Mustangs came right back
Baby's mother identified
A woman who reported that a
baby was abandoned on her
doorstep has been determined to
be the baby's mother, according
to a press release from Morrow
County District Attorney David
C. Allen.
According to Allen, Mancela
Hernandez related that she had
given birth to the infant alone at
her home. Medical tests later
revealed that Hernandez is the
child's natural mother.
On February 27 around 5:19
a m., Hernandez had reported to
law enforcement officials that
she had discovered a baby in a
cardboard box on the front
doorstep of her Boardman
residence The child was taken
into protective custody with the
Morrow County branch of
on the strength of McCabe's
third home run of the year, a
three run shot that scored Bates
and Gunderson.
The Mustangs ended the game
in the fifth on the 10-run rule as
Gunderson led off with a single,
stole second and went to third
on a fielder's choice. Travis
Bellamy then singled to drive
home the game ending run.
Gunderson ended up going 2
for 3 with 2 rbi with a double.
McCabe ended up 1 for 2 with
the 3-run homerun.
The Mustangs' next CBC
games will be a doubleheader at
Pilot Rock on Friday, April 23
at 3 p.m. The JV baseball game
will be at Heppner beginning at
11 a.m.

The Martingale 4-H Club held
their annual Easter Egg Hunt
April 11 at the home of Gene
and Kristy Crowell. Fifteen
riders took part in the Easter egg
hunt and other games on
horseback, assisted by numerous
parents.

Class C misdemeanor. The
maximum sentence for a Class A
misdemeanor is a year in jail and
a $5,000 fine; the maximum
sentence for a Class C
misdemeanor is 30 days in jail
and a $1,000 fine.
