Morrow County, Oregon
On March 9, 1999, Heppner
District Ranger, Delanne Fergu
son, decided to implement the
Equine Curve Timber Sale on the
Heppner Ranger District. This
sale will produce approximately
120 CCF of merchantable wood
products from 3 acres. The pur
pose of this sale is to reduce a
traffic hazard on Forest Road 53
by thinning the adjacent stand on
this curve, resulting in more sun
light and early thawing in the late
winter and spring. This sale has
been planned to be commercially
thinned by a horse logging opera
tion to minimize the impact on the
Scenic Byway.
This harvest was originally ap
proved under the Blue Mountain
Scenic Byway Visual Enhance
ment Categorical Exclusion De
cision Memo, and was deferred
from the resulting 53 Roadside
Salvage Sale. The original analy
sis and clearances were reviewed
and are determined to be appli
cable for this sale.

cently completed its mission of
fund-raising for the Willow Creek
Water Park and Indoor multi-use
spa/pool. I was fortunate to have

not-for-profit organization. I
