Heppner gears up for auction
The town of Heppner is once
again gearing up for the annual
St. Patrick's Day Celebration.
The celebration will be topped
off as usual with the auction on
Sunday, March 14, at the
Morrow County Fair and Oregon
Trail Pro Rodeo grounds.
The auction is the main fund
raising event for the weekend
celebration and also provides
financial support for local
projects.
Viewing of auction items will
begin at 11 a.m., accompanied
by the folk music group,
Mountainaire. The auction itself
will begin at 1 p.m. Admission
will be $1 or a "Pot O' Gold"
button.
Also during the viewing and
auction, a lamb barbecue and
other refreshments will be
available.
The auction will feature both
new and antique items. Several
auction formats will be used for
fun and variety. A "Country
Store" will feature homemade
crafts, home baked and canned
goods. Many new small items
and gift certificates will be
offered at a silent auction and a
raffle will be held as well.
Committee members will
canvas
all
the
local
communities, asking citizens
and merchants to donate items to
the auction.
"Our various
communities all support each
other in many ways, bringing
tourists to the area for festivals
and events, and we all enjoy
these events ourselves as well,"
said Delanne Ferguson, St.
Patrick's Celebration Auction
Committee
"We hope that
Pendleton, Hermiston, Tri-
Cities, Condon and Heppner will
continue to support the St.
Patrick's Day celebration."
Money raised at the auction
helps support the St. Pat's
Celebration; paying overhead, as
well as entertainment costs. The
Auction Committee also makes
contributions to the South
Morrow County Scholarship
Fund and to other local projects.
In 1998, a donation was made to
the St. Patrick's Senior Center
apartments and loudspeakers
were donated to the Rodeo
Committee.
Donors may call Dan or Doris
Brosnan at 676-5886 to make
arrangements for item pickup.
Donations may also be left at the
"Twice Upon a Time" bookstore
in Heppner or at Kuhn, Spicer &
Mills law offices in Hermiston.
