CARD OF THA N KS
My sincere thanks to the
Chamber of Commerce and all
who helped with the award given
to Eleanor Gonty and me. Thanks
also to my daughter-in-law ,
Marie, for standing in for me at
the banquet, and to my husband
Ralph, without whose help and
patience I couldn’t have spent the
hours away from home.
Community service as a way
of life was taught me at a very
early age by my parents. I have
enjoyed volunteering and espe
cially enjoyed working with .se
niors and children. Mrs. Krein
and her class were a great joy. I
hope to get back to helping there
again soon.

We would like to thank all
those involved in selecting us for
Man and Woman of the Year.
First, a thank you to Forrie
Burkenbine, who planted the idea
in our daughter Merry’s head,
then went south for six weeks.
Forrie and Gail escaped all the
fibbing, downright lying, subter
fuge and finagling that went on
before our names were finally
announced at the Town and
County Banquet.
Second, a thank you to those
very gracious people who wrote
letters recommending our names
to the Chamber of Commerce.
Each letter brought tears to our
eyes.
The acting ability in this town
is incredible. There are a few who
deserve Academy Awards: Pat
Edmundson, Suzanne Jepsen and
our sons and their families, our
daughter Kathy, and especially
Merry and Russell.
This has been a very humbling
experience and we thank the
whole community. There are a lot
of families who do what we do to
help others and a friend put it in
perspective when she said, “Yes,
there are, but it was your turn to
be thanked.”
