Local
cowboys
qualify
Football season is almost over and its coming down to the wire!
Who will be the contest champion “Mr. Q c a l l v S u p e r S t u p e n d o u s Biahead”?
Numerous local cowboys and
cowgirls have qualified for the
Columbia River Circuit Finals at
the Sundome arena in Yakima,
WA, this weekend, January 8-
10 .
Steve Cumn of Heppner is a
calf roping qualifier and he and
his brother, Tony, also Heppner,
both
qualified
for steer
wrestling. Shane Crossley of
Hermiston qualified in team-
roping (header) as did heelers,
Brett McDowell, Heppner, and
Trevor McCoin, Condon. Janice
Davis and Candice Eng, both
Hermiston, and Randy Rae Britt,
Echo, will go to the finals in
barrel racing.
Other area qualifying cowboys
include:
Richie
Hamilton,
bareback riding, Gary Alger,
saddle bronc riding, Richard
Stapleman, bull riding, and
Curtis Been, steer wrestling, all
Pendleton; and calf ropers Brad
Goodrich and Seth Hopper, both
Stanfield, Curtis Pederson,
Hermiston; and Jeff Coelho,
Long Creek.
The local competitors are
among 45 qualifying from
Oregon. The Columbia Finals,
with competitors from Oregon,
Washington and northern Idaho,
is one of 12 regional circuit
finals where pro rodeo athletes
compete for circuit titles and a
trip to the Dodge National
Circuit Finals Rodeo held each
March in Pocatello, ID.
Throughout the year
competitors accumulate points at
rodeos within their designated
circuit and the top 12 contestants
at circuit season's end in each of
the Professional Rodeo Cowboys
Association's six events and
Women's Professional Rodeo
Association barrel racing qualify
to compete at the three-round
circuit finals event.
Each circuit's finals then sends
two competitors in each event to
the Dodge National Circuit
Finals Rodeo—year end circuit
champions and winners of the
clrcuit finals average titles. In
March the contestants will
complete with qualifiers from 11
other circuit finals for national
titles and more than $440,000 in
prize money.
Money earned at the Columbia
River Prorodeo Circuit Finals
and DNCFR does not count
toward the Crown Royal world
standings.

The Incredible Edible Club
By Shelby Krebs, reporter
The Incredible Edible 4-H club
met in late October for their first
meeting of the new 4-H year.
Members began the meeting by
using “Glo Germ,” a kit that de
termines how well you wash your
hands. Members then got into the
Halloween spirit by making jack-
o ’-lanterns, wormy punch and
graveyard cake. Je ff Hunt,
Stephanie and Barbara Holland
and leaders Jessica and Shelby
Krebs were in attendance.
For the club’s Dec. 29 meet
ing, members began with a true/
false quiz which was easily
passed. Fajitas and a vegetable
dish were prepared. In attendance
were Jeff Hunt, Amy Jepsen and
Jessica and Shelby Krebs.
