Jerry Asher, who has been employed with the Bureau o f Land Management, and Dan Sharratt. an agronomist with the Oregon Department of Agriculture, w ill present the program. Jerry Asher has worked for the Bureau o f Land Management for 37 years, primarily at the district level. His assignments have taken him to Elko. Nevada. Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Washington. D.C. Oregon assignments included Baker City. Prineville. Medford, Lakeview and currently Portland. From 1988 through 1991 Asher worked extensively in the western states developing the "Vegetation Diversity Project: A Research and Demonstration Plan to Restore and Maintain Native Plants on Deteriorated Rangelands". While talking to federal, state and private land experts in many states about restoring land. Asher says there was always a common theme that everyone wanted to express: the rapid expansion o f weeds. Since this strong interest was shared by so many people. Asher was compelled to put together slide presentations describing this rapid deterioration o f w ildlands. Dan Sharratt. supervisory agronomist with ODA stationed at the Union County Experiment Station, w ill present a program on how Global Positioning Systems assist with the war on weeds. November 12. at 3:30 p.m. at Lane Community College in Eugene, against the Oakridge Warriors, the first place team from District 4. The Mustangs earned their spot in the playoffs with a second- place finish at last weekend's Columbia Basin Conference tournament in The Dalles. Oakridge captured the TRICO League championship by defeating Monroe in a playoff this past week. The 2A state tourney w ill be held at L.CC in Eugene Thursday through Saturday . The I A state volleyball playoffs w ill also be held at LCC Friday and Saturday. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $4 for students for each individual session. A season pass is available for $30 for adults and $25 for students. I f the Mustangs defeat Oakridge. they would play Friday at I I a.m. I f the Mustangs drop the opener, they would play on Friday at 8 a.m. This is a double elimination tournament, meaning i f a team drops two contests it is eliminated from further play.
