PUBLIC NOTICE
Kimberlee Ann Whitney
Kimberlee Ann Whitney, 32, of
Portland, died Thursday, October
I, 1998, at the Portland Adventist
Medical Center.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, October 7,1998 at the
First Christian Church in Hepp­
ner. Concluding service and inter­
ment followed at the Lexington
Cemetery.
Kimberlee Ann Whitney was
bom May 16, 1966, at Portland,
to Dale Whitney and Charlene
Jones. She grew up in the Port­
land area and attended schools
there, including Jefferson High
School, then began working in the
Portland area.
She enjoyed ice skating and
swimming.
Survivors include her mother,
Charlene Whitney o f Portland;
father, Dale Whitney o f Nome,
Alaska; maternal grandparents,
Charles C. and Delpha Jones of
Lexington; also Rick Whitney and
Sheila Finley.
Memonal contributions may be

Gerald C. "Jerry” Rood
Gerald C. "Jerry" Rood, 80, of
Heppner, died Wednesday,
September 30, 1998, at Pioneer
Memorial Hospital in Heppner.
Graveside funeral service was
held Tuesday, October 6, 1998,
at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Jerry Rood was bom on March
II, 1918, in Heppner to Walter
and Helen Coleman Rood. He
was raised in Heppner and
attended local schools. He lived
in Heppner until he joined the
United States Navy, serving his
country during WWI1.
After the service, he returned to
Heppner where he worked for
the U.S. Dept, of Fish and
Wildlife as a trapper until his
retirement in 1983.
He enjoyed hpnting, fishing

American Legion Lodges.
Mr. Rood is survived by his
daughter,
Susan
Chick,
Hermiston; brother, Louis Rood;
sisters, Margie, Charlene and
Betty; and four grandchildren,
Autumn, Emily, Quinn and Eric
Chick o f Lexington.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Betty Rood, and two
brothers, Ray and Orville Rood.

Muriel J. Palmer
Muriel J. Palmer, 84, of Hepp­
ner, died Tuesday, September 29,
1998, at Pioneer Memorial Hos­
pital in Heppner.
Funeral services were held Fri­
day, October 2,1998 at the Hepp­
ner United Methodist Church.
Concluding service and bunal fol­
lowed at the Lexington Cemetery.
Muriel Patterson was bom July
13, 1914, at lone, to George and
Vanza Cooper Patterson. She
graduated from lone High School
in 1932.
On November 11, 1934, she
married Elmer Palmer at Hepp­
ner. The couple farmed in South
Morrow County, retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Palmer enjoyed having
spent the past 17 winters at Mesa,
Arizona.
She was a m em ber o f the
United Methodist Church, the
Rhea Creek Grange, later Lexing­
ton Grange and the Willow Creek
County Club in Heppner, where
she made her first hole-in-one at
the age of 80.
Survivors include her husband,
Elmer, o f Heppner; son, Roger,
also of Heppner; daughter Sally
Dyer of Condon; brother, Arthur
Patterson of Spokane, Washing­
ton; sister, H elen Sparks o f
Longview, Washington; 10 grand­
children and 19 great-grandchil­
dren. She was preceded in death
by sisters Alice McCabe and
Jennie McCabe; and brother, Ray
Patterson.

Jim Raible
Jim Raible, lone High School
language arts and Spanish
teacher, has been named the
WalMart area teacher of the
year for 1997-98. In addition to
receiving the honor of the
presentation, a WalMart vest
and certificate, Raible also won
a check for $500 to be donated
to his school.
Raible, 35, originally from
California, received a bachelor
o f arts degree from the
University of Santa Clara, CA,
and a master's in education and
his
teaching
certification
through
Western
Oregon
University. He had taught at
