Jonathan Nicholas," Portland <
Oregonian columnist, says,
"Heppner’s Courthouse is my
favorite." No argument there.
The Morrow County Courthouse
is included in the book,
"Exploring Oregon's Histone
Courthouses", by Kathleen
Wiederhold, who visited the
Morrow County Museum for
research while writing the book.
Our museum has a copy.
It was refreshing to meet Jack
and Helen Braithwaite, visitors
from Marshfield, Massachusetts.
Recently retired, their joint goal
was to travel coast to coast from
one Marshfield (renamed Coos
Bay in 1944) to the other.
Jack preferred to drive,
explonng backroad communities
while Helen cycled 50 miles a
day. Their visit was delightful
but much too short on Little
Buttercreek. I hope our paths
cross again.
Meeting new
people is truly one of the perks
of working at the Chamber.
(Read

about
their
adventure in this issue o f the
Gazette.)
"When the going gets tough,
the tough get going." Our
community is hopeful that our
hospital and nursing home can
continue on. Solutions are being
sought and ideas are welcomed
There are no easy answers, but,
as with all things in a rural
community, if you don't use it,
you lose it. Now is the time. If
you're ill, head for the hill.
Businesses with fewer than 25
employees are reminded that
there are still monies available
for employers and employees to
assist with employee training
needs. On-site training, hiring
staff while others train, and
employer conferences are just a
few of the opportunities offered
through the Morrow Umatilla
(Region
12)
Workforce
Committee.

information and a simple
application form, contact Mary

Chamber Ambassadors Jerri
Sly, Pat Sweeney, Trish
Sweeney and Nova Sweeney
represented Heppner at the state
convention in Hermiston last
weekend. They took along a
varied gift basket door prize,
thanks to local businesses and
handed
out
the
famous
leprechaun lapel pins.
Looking ahead, mark your
calendars for a Spooktacular
event in Heppner Thursday,
October 29.
