teams of Mike Beers, Powell
Butte, OR, and Chns Lawson,
Collinsville. OK, currently
ranked 12th. Seven-time world
champions Clay O'Brien Cooper
and Jake Barnes and two-time
former world champions Bobby
Hurley and Allen Bach will also
add to the big name talent.
Barrel racing legend, Martha
Josey, Kamack, TX, who has
been competing at the top of the
world standings for four decades
will be competing. She has
gained world recognition with
her clinics, schools, books,
videos and clothing line
promoting the sport of barrel
racing. Sheri Cervi, Midland,
TX» currently ranked second, in
th e ! world, will face' " Stiff
competition from nine-time
world champion, Charmayne
James, Stephenville, TX, who is
currently ranked fourth, and
Molly Swanson, Sims, MT,
ranked fifth. Other competition
will be Columbia River Circuit
National Finals Rodeo hopefuls
Katie McCoin, Condon, ranked
30th, and Jamie Richards,
Kennewick, WA, ranked 20th.
Local talents Kelli Currin,
Heppner,
Janice
Davis,
Hermiston, and Randy Rae Bntt,
Echo, will also be competing.
Other local talent featured in
the two PRCA performances are

Among the awards to claim this
weekend are the All Around

events to compete for this
coveted saddle.

mutton busters, the crowd will
be entertained by Bert Davis
"The Coppertown Clown" of
Copperopolis, CA.
He is
hilarious with his many animal
acts and clown routines. Bull
fighters Danny Neuman and Tim
Viedenburg will risk their lives
to help free the contestants.

The U.S. Dept, of Trans
portation lists its planned
construction activities on Willow
Creek Road for the week of
Monday, Aug. 17:
Tidewater will continue work
ing on the cut slope excavation
and placing rock embankment
with material from the cut slope,
working between the beginning
of the project and the end of the
project at Ditch Creek. They are
hauling waste material to the
waste sites established on the FS
5350 road. They are utilizing
scrapers and cat wagons to move
the waste material. Drivers in the
area, please observe the flaggers
and remember that they are there
to help and you and the
equipment drivers. They plan to
have a eulvert crew start placing
new' culvert under the roadway,
beginning near Cutsforth Park
and working towards the top of
the grade. Emergency access
through the project will be
maintained throughout the rest of
the construction season.
Willow Creek Road (Coal
Mine Grade) is closed to through
traffic from Cutsforth Park to the
intersection of Forest Service
roads 5350 and 53. This inter
section will remain open, to the
logging contractor only, for the
removal of timber sale material.
The FS 21 Road, Penland Lake
Road, intersection will remain
open
during
construction
activities and will be controlled
with flaggers.
Willow Creek Road remains
open, to local traffic only, to
Cutsforth Park. The park will
remain open through the
construction season.
The Willow Creek road closure
will continue through Oct. 9,
1998. The detour route through
the Shaw Creek Road will
continue to be the main travel
route through to the four comers
to Penland Lake and Ukiah.
Additional temporary signs have
been placed for Penland Lake
access.
Please watch for logging truck
traffic and observe the warning
signs, including the speed limit,
on the detour route and observe
the barricades at both ends of the
construction zone. Please have a
safe summer and remember that
the barricaded road closures are
for the traveling public's safety.

Fair and Rodeo get underway
from 9:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. both
Friday and Saturday nights and
the parade will be Saturday
beginning at 10 a.m.
PRCA Rodeo performances
will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and
1:15 p.m. Saturday. The Morrow
County Rodeo will be Sunday at
1:15 p.m.
4-H annex exhibits,
commercial entries and booths
will be released Sunday, August.

be held Wednesday, August 19-
Sunday, August 23, in Heppner.
The fair, which opens for
public viewing Wednesday,
beginning at 9 a.m., will feature
contests, shows and displays of
all sorts, animal showmanship
and judging, a style show,
entertainment, music and food
galore.
Street dances will be held at
the fairgrounds parking areas
