Lindsey Ward follows in the
footsteps of family members
who have been active in fair and
rodeo.
Lindsey, a pretty blonde with
blue eyes that twinkle with a hint
of mischief, will be a sophomore
at Heppner High School this fall.
The 16-year-old lives with her
parents, Jim and Susie Ward,
and 14-year-old sister Ashley on
the
family
ranch.
Her
grandparents are Ray and Norma
French, Heppner, Joy Salter,
Athena, and Bill Ward, Letha,
Idaho.
Lindsey's mom was Morrow
County Fair and Rodeo princess
in 1970 and queen in 1972. Her
aunt, Verina French Schiller,
who is also Queen Maci
Childers' aunt by marriage, was
princess in 1966 and queen in
1967.
Lindsey's dad
has
competed in calf roping and
team roping and now steer ropes.
Granddad Bill was also a calf
roper, team roper and steer
roper. Granddad Ray, who is a
Morrow County Commissioner,
served many years on the rodeo
board in the 1960s and also
spent around 10 years flagging
the timed events. Sister Ashley,
who will be an eighth-grader at
Heppner Junior High School this
fall, is a pennant bearer this
year. Ashley has competed in
Wranglers riding club and won
the Pee Wee barrels competition
last year in Heppner.
In addition to participating in
4-H cooking, beef and sheep, the
5'8" princess enjoys volleyball,
basketball and golf at Heppner
High School. She is also a
member of OSSOM, the
Wildhorse Club and is on the
honor roll at HHS. She has been
a member of Wranglers for
around three years and the
Mustangers
club
out
of
Pendleton since she was a little
girl.
Lindsey rides her 12-year-old
quarterhorse, "Bravo", in fair
and rodeo events. "He's just
really friendly," says Lindsey.
"He's really been good about all
the events, but he's getting a
little tired of being washed. And
I'm getting tired of washing
him," laughs Lindsey. Bravo
also pinch hits as Lindsey's dad's
back-up horse.
Lindsey says it's hard to pick
