Oregon Pacific Area Health
Education Center (AHEC), in co
operation with the Colum bia
Willamette AHEC in Portland, is
sponsoring a Spanish language
immersion program, “Healthcare
en Espanol.” The program is
available to almost any heathcare
professional, including physicians,
physician assistants, nurse practi
tioners, midwives, nurses, medi
cal receptionists and dental pro
fessionals.
Participants selected will spend
two weeks this June or July living
with a Spanish-speaking family
while working at a migrant com
munity health clinic. Living ex
penses during the immersion pro
gram will be reimbursed to the
families by the AHEC. Funds are
available to pay other expenses
related to the professional leaving
their local workplace.
It is recommended that appli
cants have an intermediate level
of Spanish. Those who have com
pleted the AHEC-sponsored “Ba
sic and Building on Basic Spanish
for Healthcare Professionals”
courses may apply.
Applications for this program
are due Monday, June 15. Those
interested in applying should con
