Support Guy VanArsdale
To the Editor:
I want to take this opportunity
iO support Guy Van Arsdale for
Morrow County Judge. I have
Known Guy Van Arsdale for
many years.
He was been a very successful
businessman in Morrow County.
He has worked as a contractor,
built roads, flies, logs, owns
equipment, kept crews working
and has stayed ahead of the
business all his life. He always
got the job done and did it right.
He is presently the Morrow
County Road Department's
supervisor.
Again, Guy has
gotten the job done and done it
well.
He is familiar with
budgets. Private business and
county business require that
knowledge and Guy has just that
expertise. Again, Guy has gotten
the job done and done it right.
I admire Guy for a great many
skills that he possesses. He is
very astute and manages a great
many tasks on a daily basis.
There are many candidates, but
none any more qualified for the
job as Guy Van Arsdale. Please
vote and support Guy for
Morrow County Judge on
election day.

Have faith in Lundquist
To the Editor:
We are supporting representa
tive Lynn Lundquist as our rep
resentative for District 59.
Lynn has the experience we
need in Salem. He has proven to
us that he is there to represent us
and not the Portland special in
terest groups that are financing his
opponent.
Lynn Lundquist has shown he
has a gift for leadership and a de
sire to bring reconciliation and
not hate to our legislature. Lynn
has been a friend of ours for a long
time and we have great faith in
him.
Senator Gordon Smith and
Congressman Bob Smith have
both endorsed Lynn’s candidacy
and so do we.

Addresses question
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to
Allen Swenson's April 15, 1998,
letter to the editor. Mr. Swenson
questioned whether Morrow
County wants me as their district
attorney because of my driving
record. I would like to address
his question.
First, Mr. Swenson's recitation
of my driving record is correct.
However, his implication that I
have no regard for the law is not
correct.
I have never been
convicted of a crime. When 1
was cited for driving under the
influence of intoxicants, 10 years
ago, I was 23 years old. My
blood alcohol content was .08,
the legal limit. All of the charges
against me were diverted and
dismissed as a result of my
completing a series of alcohol
education classes.
These
diversion classes proved to be the
cloud's "silver lining". They
provided me valuable tools and
helped prevent alcohol from
potentially becoming a problem
in my life. Ironically, I moved
on to teach several diversion
classes on the subject of Oregon
drinking and driving laws. I
have grown and matured quite a
bit since 1988. In fact, I have
successfully
prosecuted
numerous driving under the
influence cases since that time.
Second, the reported failure to
appear in Wasco County Court
was quite simply a clerical error.
In 1995 1 mailed Wasco County
the scheduled bail for a speeding
ticket I received. My payment
was never entered on the
computer and apparently never
received. I moved to Portland
shortly thereafter and did not
learn of the glitch until two years
later.
I re-paid the Wasco
County ticket to reinstate my
license. I did not knowingly
drive while suspended and
corrected the error as soon as I
learned o f it.
Mr. Swenson's question
misstates what should be of real
interest to the voters of Morrow
County. What should be of real
interest to the voters are the
severe problems with their
current district attorney. My
candidacy and this election are
about the need for change -
change made necessary because
a statutory rapist was offered
misdemeanor
treatment
in
exchange for his promise to
marry his 14-year-old victim.
Change made necessary because
sex offenders go unprosecuted
until mterim,*di strict'>*tw*hc9?
Bill Hanlon, comes to towm.
Change made necessary because
the current district attorney won't
make himself accessible to the
public.
No regard for the law? As your
district attorney, I will improve
prosecution and enforcement of
the laws.
Crimes will be
charged,
plead
and tried
according to the facts and the
law. My door will always be
open and phone calls will always
be returned. Issues such as jail
space and increased judge time in
circuit court will be tackled head
on until a solution is found.
These changes represent my
commitment to the law and will
only occur with hard work and
commitment. These issues of
real interest are why you should
elect David Allen as your next
district attorney.

Portland
Lynn Lundquist honorable, trustworthy
I would like to offer my
support for Lynn Lundquist in
his
bid
for
our
state
representative for our area. I
have found Lynn to be a very
honorable
and
trustworthy
individual in my business
dealings with him over the many
years we have bought good
Hereford cattle from him. Lynn
was also a hard working
president
of the
Oregon
Cattlemens Association and his
lobbying efforts on behalf of
cattlemen and other resource
users were outstanding. One
important bill I recall that he
worked hard on during his term
as president gave ranchers,
farmers, timberland owners, and
others who make their living
managing their own natural
resources the opportunity to
manage on a voluntary rather
than a regulatory basis.
Lynn is a champion of
education and is a strong
supporter of our schools and
colleges. We talked with him
during a recent trip to Morrow
County to visit our school district
and were impressed with his
commitment to personally visit
every school district in Oregon to
see for himself what the needs
are and to hear from the people
living, working and paying taxes
in those school districts.

Vote for Greg Walden
To the Editor:
We do not have much time left
to consider our important votes
that are coming up soon to elect a
new U.S. R epresentative in
Washington, D.C.
As one person that has lived in
Eastern Oregon all my many
years of life, I am very interested
and hoping all our Eastern Oregon
voters will be sure and vote and I
hope each and every one will vote
for Greg Walden.
He is. I believe, our best and
most capable choice for good rep
resentation in Congress for us.
He will do an outstanding job
for our benefit.
Greg is well aware o f Eastern
Oregon problems and will make
good decisions that will be based
on our needs and desires.
Greg is also a good family man
as well as a fine businessman in
Hood River.
Please vote for our friend, Greg
Walden.

Correction
(Editor's note: the following
letter to the editor appeared
incorrectly in last week's
Gazette-Times.)
To the Editor:
When I read the Gazette last
week and saw that Earl Woods
and David Allen are the
candidates for district attorney of
Morrow County, I decided to do
a little background investigation
of my own. It wasn't easy. I had
to go to the incumbent District
Attorney Mr. Woods to get the
information necessary about
himself to start my investigation,
and I had to access the records of
the Justice Courts to get the rest.
What I wanted to do was to
check their driving records. I
was finally able to do that
through the Motor Vehicles
Division, but as I said it wasn't
easy.
I first checked Mr. Woods'
driving record and discovered
that over the last 10 years Mr.
Woods has had two citations for
speeding
over the 10 year
period, one in 1991 and one in
1993.
I next obtained the driving
record for Mr. Allen and found it
to be of much more interest.
Over the period of the last 10
years Mr. Allen was arrested for
Driving Under the Influence of
Intoxicants in 1988, and in the
process submitted to a breath test
which showed his blood alcohol
to be greater than the legal limit.
This resulted in a suspension of
his driver's license. Thereafter in
1995 he failed to appear for a
hearing in the Wasco County
District Court and as a result he
was suspended again, this time
for a period of two years and two
months. During this period he
was not supposed to drive in
Oregon. But he did. In 1996 he
was convicted of Driving While
Suspended Infraction and in 1996
and in 1997 he was convicted for
driving uninsured. Because of
this and a few other minor
citations
Mr.
Allen
last
November received a warning
letter from the Department of
Motor Vehicles. In addition he
has a speeding ticket pending in
the Heppner Justice Court which
I'm told might impact his right to
drive in Oregon.
. I don’t have a perfect driving
record -myself, but I'm not
running for the top law
enforcement legal position in the
county. I wonder if we want a
district attorney who apparently
has no regard for the laws that he
might be expected to enforce?

Keep Lundquist
To the Editor:
One can always tell an election
year, not only are the letters of
support being sought, but also the
newspapers and mail are used
daily, mostly for the campaign
messages of the candidates. Now
I don't object to any form of
campaigning as long as the
information is truthful. And,
unfortunately, there are ads
coming out that I take issue to
and they are not by any means
truthful.
We support Lynn Lundquist for
state representative. Lynn does
indeed understand land issues
and certainly is a friend of
Eastern Oregon and is doing a
great job in Salem. Despite the
stories, and please know that they
are just stories which are coming
out against Lynn Lundquist,
Lynn will be happy to address
any and all issues you may wish
to inquire about. Lynn is a
member of the Cattlemen's
Association and supports them.
He is a rancher and cattlemen
and
therefore
understands
agriculture, natural resource
issues and how very important
our family jobs and wage needs
are.
Please keep Lynn Lundquist as
your state representative by
casting your vote for him
election day. He is doing an
outstanding job in Salem for you
and me.
