RUNAWAY REGULATION
ÿV*T. ' *
j
Often, when Oregon citizens get whacked by some heavy-handed
(or just plain stupid) government regulation, they're shocked to discover
the rule wasn't implemented by their legislature, but cooked-up and
adopted by bureaucrats who don't have to answer to the voters ...
even though the rules have the full force of law on you and me!

• Look, if we have to live with a law, it should take more than just a
decision by government career types ... and their pals in back offices.

Here's how it would wo-k: when citizens find an agency rule is
obstructionist, petty, or dumb, and, if they can collect 25,000
voters' signatures, that rule has to be reviewed by
the legislature. If the rule doesn't pass
muster, it's history. That's i t ...

Angela Munkers
Leaders of the National High
School
Rodeo
Association
(NHSRA), the oldest youth
rodeo organization in America,
appointed Angela Munkers of
Lexington to the Wrangler High
School All Star Rodeo Team, the
first-ever corporate-sponsored
youth rodeo team.
The Wrangler High School All
Star Rodeo Team is fashioned
after Wrangler's Champion Pro
Rodeo Team which includes
superstars like Ty Murray, Joe
Beaver, Dan Mortensen and hall-
of-famer
Jim
Shoulders.
Munkers earned a position on the
Wrangler High School All Star
Rodeo Team based on leadership
qualities, academic eligibility
and athletic achievements, said a
NHSRA news release.
"We are excited to expand
Wrangler's rodeo sponsorship
program at the high school
level," said Karl Stressman.
special events manager for
Wrangler Rodeo. "It gives us a
tremendous sense of pnde to
associate the Wrangler brand
with promising young men and
women. We're confident each
member of the team will be an
outstanding goodwill ambassador
for the sport of rodeo."
The proper way to create a law is to convince thirty-one members of
the State House of Representatives, sixteen State Senators, and the
Governor that your idea benefits the state. But over time, legislators
have recklessly handed over law-making power to bureaucracies,
without building in any practical system of checks or review.
