•VOLKSWALK - 8 AM - 4 PM. Make a “grand tour” of the Irish Capital of Oregon. The
event starts at the High School on Morgan Street and tours the town on a 6.2 mile/10
kilometer route.
•WILLOW CREEK WATER PARK-9 AM-Noon. Tour the new facility, view the inscribed
bricks, register for classes, purchase season passes. Call 676-2752 to make spa ap­
pointments or register for classes.

Bowl-a-thon
planned April 4
A “Strike Out for Kids” bowl-
a-thon will be held Saturday,
April 4, at Heppner’s W illow
Lanes bowling alley. The bowl-
a-thon will be sponsored by the
Heppner Elks Lodge in coopera­
tion with the Oregon State Elks
Association.
Held for the first time, this non­
competitive bowling event is a
means of helping support the Elks
Children’s Eye Clinic at Casey
Eye Institute in Portland and the
Meadowood Springs Speech and
Hearing Camp near Pendleton.
“This bowl-a-thon provides an
opportunity for people o f all ages
to support this worthy cause,”
said a spokesperson. Participants
may ask family, friends and oth­
ers for pledges that are to be col­
lected and brought to the bowl­
ing alley on April 4. A $6 entry
fee may be paid by a participat­
ing bowler or deducted from that
person’s total pledges. Bowling
equipment and shoes will not be
provided.
The amount o f pledged dollars
qualifies each person for prize
drawings at three levels. Level
one is for those with pledges rang­
ing from $1-100; level two, $101-
250; and level three, $250 or
more. Merchants and others are
donating a wide range o f prizes
and each participant will receive
a free bowling towel.
Bowlers will take part in thrpe
games of bowling, while teaming
up with others on different lanes.
Pledge cards may be obtained at
the bowling alley or at the Elks
Lodge.
Everyone is invited to partici­
pate.

Little League tryouts have been
scheduled for the next several
weeks.
Tryouts for the Majors only for
both boys and girls will be held
Thursday, March 19, at 4 p.m.
Tryouts for the girls will be
held at the Kilkenny Field and
tryouts for the boys will be held
at the George Waterland Field
near the dam.
Boys and girls' majors, t-ball
and minors tryouts will be held
on Saturday, March 28.
Tryouts for the boys' majors
will be at the George Waterland
Field from 10 a m.-noon; girls'
tryouts will be held at the softball
field from 10 a.m. to noon; and
tryouts for T-ball and minor
league will be held at the new
fields starting at noon.
Senior girls' and whiffle ball
tryouts will be announced at a
later date.
Applications will be accepted
until the date of tryouts.

Catherine Carol Moore, 75, of
Imgon, died Friday, March 6,
1998,
at Good
Shepherd
Community
Hospital
in
Hermiston.
At her request no funeral
services will be held. Disposition
was by cremation. Private family
memorial services will be held
later.
Catherine Carol Curtis was
bom Dec. 11, 1922, at Givens
Springs, Idaho, to Charlie and
Katherine Baker Curtis.
She married Dean Moore on
Sept. 16, 1946, at Winnemucca,
Nev.
They lived at Ephrata, Wash.,
for 35 years, at Homedale, Idaho,
for 10 years, and came to Imgon
in 1994.
Mrs. Moore enjoyed fishing,
sewing and swimming, and loved
dogs.
Survivors included her husband
o f 51 years, Dean Moore o f
Irrigon;
daughter,
Caroline
Moore Hill of Tacoma, Wash,;
and four grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents,
Charlie and Kathenne Curtis; and
brothers, Alfred Curtis, Leroy
Curtis and Elton Curtis.
