Cards win final league
game over Wheeler
By Kara Millar
The lone Lady Cardinals were
hosts to the Wheeler Falcons for
their last league game o f the
1997-98 season. The C ards
cruised to an 87-37 victory to end
their basketball season at home.

farewell” was given by junior
Niki Sullivan to seniors Brenda
Bumght and Kara Miller. They

first game on Friday, Feb. 20 at

JV Mustang girls maroon Vikings
By Molly Rhea
The JV Mustang girls put
together a huge second half to
maroon the Vikings, 41-36, in
Umatilla on Saturday, February
14.
The game started out slow with
neither team able to score until
Trisha Adams hit a free throw
with 2:36 remaining in the first
quarter, and the score after one
was 3-4, Wahtonka's favor.
In the second quarter the
Mustangs were outscored 12
points to seven and trailed 10-16
heading into to the locker room
for the halftime break.
Whatever Coach Dana Reid
said to the Heppner team at the
half must have been the right
stuff because the Mustangs came
out fired up and scored 14 points
while holding the Vikings to
three, to put Heppner up by five,
24-19.
Kathleen Greenup led the
Mustangs in the fourth quarter
scoring nine of her 11 points,
seven of those from behind the
free throw line. The five-point
margin proved to be enough as
both squads put in 17 points in
the final quarter.
Eight of the nine Mustangs
posted points for the contest,
with Greenup leading the
Heppner scorers with her 11.
Kim Pointer added 10 points and
five rebounds. Jessica Maben
pulled down 12 rebounds and
scored six points for the
Mustangs.
Umatilla freshman guard,
Desirae Kik led all scorers with
17 points.
The Stanfield teams will be in
town on Saturday for the final JV
girls game of the season.
