Report
A regular board meeting of the
Morrow SWCD/Weed Advisory
Board will be held Monday,
February 2, at 4 p.m. at the
Pettyjohn building in Heppner.
Agenda items include the
Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) report, the
manager's report, election of
officers, planning of the annual
meeting, agency reports and
other business.
The meeting is open to the
public.
In attendance at the senior dinner Jan. 21 were 72 people over 60
and 12 under 60. Thirteen meals were home delivered. Members
of the Christian Life Center served.
Irene Anhom was honored on her birthday, with cake, balloons
and gifts. Truman Messenger's birthday was the day before.
Happy birthday was sung to them and the other seniors who have
birthdays in January. Blood pressures were taken before the meal.
The menu for the senior dinner Feb. 4 will be meatloaf, scalloped
potatoes, spinach salad, rolls, pears and cookies. Members of the
First Christian Church will serve. Hearing aid assistance will be
given at 10 a.m. and blood pressures taken at 11 a.m.
Because of illness there was no breakfast Friday Jan. 23. The
menu for Friday, Jan. 30, will be biscuits and gravy, fruit, hot and
cold cereal, orange juice, milk and coffee.
The Senior Center office was closed Mon., Jan. 19, for the
Martin Luther King holiday, as it is on all Monday holidays. Four
ladies played cards in the afternoon. There was also one table of
cards in play Friday afternoon. There have been no Sunday
movies for several weeks, because the sitting room is too cold in
the evening.
Volunteers are still needed at the Senior Center office. Please
help.
Tickets are available for the raffle of the beautiful quilt at the
Senior Center.
Dates to remember include: Tues. and Thurs., 10 a.m., exercise;
Wed., 10 a.m. hearing aid assistance, 11 a.m., blood pressures
taken, 12 noon, senior meal, 1 p.m., Nutrition Site meeting, and
every Wed. bingo at 1 p.m. (proceeds from Bingo go to help with
expenses at the Senior Center); Friday, 8-10 a.m., breakfast, 2
p.m., cards.
The seniors extend their deepest sympathy to Susie Cooper and
her family at the loss of their husband and father.

Lexington Grange meeting held

Lexington Grange #726 met on
Monday evening, Jan. 19, for the
regular meeting. The evening
started with the annual pancake
supper prepared and served by the
men of the Grange.
Reports were heard from the
Chaplain and GWA chairman.
Plans were discussed on a GWA
meeting in February to plan to
help with the St. Patrick’s Cel
ebration.
The agriculture chairman Ken
neth Smouse gave a report on the
il budget Is required In order to expand additional

ment program. This will authorize
the U.S. Dept, of Agriculture to
pay landowners to set aside natu
ral buffers along rivers and wa
terways. This also helps with the
cost of tree planting. Smouse re
ported the U.S. Government will
assist the states in the natural buff
ers and help with the fish recov
ery plan.

holding the office of Ceres was

Tillicum Grange in Umatilla
County.

General Office Clerk
The City of Heppner is in the
process of recruiting a General
Office Clerk to work a part-time,
irregular schedule. The General
Office Clerk performs a variety
of clerical tasks. Tasks may in
clude assisting the public in a
friendly and efficient manner on
the telephone and in person, use a
cash register (after training), sort
ing and preparing mail, filing, or
ganizing archive records and other
duties related to general office
needs. Much of the work is rep
etitious in nature. The ability to
type is desirable. Must be able to
follow oral and written instruc
tions. Successful completion of an
alphabetical filing test is required
prior to hiring.
The individual selected for this
position will begin Thursday, Feb
ruary 19, 1998, and will work an
irregular "on-call” schedule. The
rate of pay is $7/hr (no benefits).
The position is funded only for Fis
cal Year 1 997-98 and is subject to
possible continuation thereafter.
