« All stars announced Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, November 26, 1997 - THREE lone High School holds sports dessert By Nova Rietmann The lone High School Sports Awards Dessert took place on Thursday, November 13, in the lone High cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. The evening started off with an array of desserts, punch and coffee donated by the parents of the students. Football was announced first. Coach Robin Graff welcomed everyone, then talked about 1997 football season. Jeremiah McElligott received the award for most inspirational player. Jacob Neifer received most improved. The "Big Stick" award went to Marc Orem. The Big Sky Conference awards went to Jake McElligott for second team offensive end and second team defensive back and Marc Orem for second team defensive line, honorable mention quarterback and offensive end. The football team then gave their coaches, Robin Graff and Dennis Stefam, gifts for their leadership. Volleyball coach Charity McElligott talked about the volleyball team's efforts and achievements. Jenny Sullivan, Brenda Bumght, and Kara Miller were the team captains for this past year. MVP went to Kara Miller. Nikki McElligott received most inspirational and Molly Barrow received most improved. Matt and Paul Hamms received honorary manager awards for their help with the volleyball team this past season. Both Charity McElligott and assistant coach Cathy McCabe were given gifts. The awards displayed the hardwork and dedication that goes into sports at lone. According to Heppner Police Chief Doug Rathbun and officer on the scene, Mike Sweek, the pickup was probably totalled.
