This year’s activities will fea

Everyone is invited to attend.
Chamber Challar
By'Claudia Hugh— , Chamber Manager
During the weekly Main Street
meeting, Brent Reynolds, ODOT
commented on how much he
enjoyed working in the Heppner
community. It's to Heppner's
credit that we are able to envision
what's to come rather than spend
time 'grousing" about what is
happening now. Maybe it's that
we take after the early settlers,
Irish, Swedes, Germans, Scots,
etc., who held a vision, had a
good work ethic, adapted to
change and had the patience to
see it through. Hearty stock, one
and all.
People come and go and leave
imprints that we don’t forget in
our community. Kevin Erich and
his family will be missed. Erich
has contributed much during his
years of service as a board
member of the Heppner Chamber
of Commerce. We have benefited
from the energy, enthusiasm,
honesty and integrity exhibited by
the Erich family. We wish them
well.
Trish Sweeney of Murray's
County Rose has agreed to fill the
board vacancy.
Her retail
creativity and expertise will be a
welcome addition.
Are you filling those orange
"Hard Hat Great Escape"
punchcards? Be sure to pick one
up at participating businesses.
The contest, sponsored by the
Chamber, is open to all Heppner
shoppers and you can enter as
many cards as you fill. The
contest will run until October IS,
with the drawing occurring
shortly after. You could be the
one to win three nights for two
adults and up to two children at
your choice of twelve luxury
vacation sites in the Pacific
Northwest. You need to enter to
win.
Chamber programs for the
ensuing weeks are: Dave Harlen,
Regional Econ. Development
director, OEDD; Janet White,
regional director of the American
Heart Association; committee
brainstorming
session;
and
Richard Hensley, editor of the
East Oregonian.
Thought for the week: 'Hope
sees the invisible, feels the
intangible, and achieves the
impossible."

O SU Extension
office moves
The OSU Extension office in
Morrow County has moved from
the Pettyjohn Building to the
Morrow County Family Service
Center above the Coast to Coast
Store. The move was made the
week of August 25.
Office hours are from 8 a.m. to
noon and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The faculty have also made
some changes. Carol Michael is
now working half time and will
focus on the home economics
program in Morrow and Umatilla
Counties. Bill Broderick remains
full time as the 4-H and
Livestock agent and has added
staff chair duties to his position.
Kathryn Kettel will continue her
half-time position as crops
technician.
The Morrow County faculty and
support staff have been reduced
because o f funding cuts at the
state and county level. Every
effort will be made to staff the
office during the above listed
times, but from time to time the
office may need to be closed
because of scheduling conflicts,
said Michael. The office has a
message recorder so people can
call any time day or night and
leave a message and their call
will be returned as soon as
possible, said Michael.
A building open house will be
held as soon as the streets and
sidewalks are finished, she said.
"Until then it may be a little
inconvenient," Michael added.
"But please remember the
Extension office is here to serve
you. So, call or stop by with any
questions."
