grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by brother, Herman, and
sister, Mildred Lundblad.

of his life.
Mr. Green was a member of the
H eppner U nited M ethodist
church, the Odd Fellows Lodge
and was a charter member of the
Morrow County's Home-Owned Weekly Newspaper

Gresham resident June M.
Dick, 76, died Thursday, August
14, 1997 in Clackamas. Memo­
rial services were held August 18,
1997 in Portland.
Mrs. Dick was bom June 3,
1921, in Spokane, WA to Lucious
F. and Harriet Shong Cousins.
The family moved to Wisconsin
while she was a teenager and she
completed her schooling there.
She maimed Francis Jarvis in
1938 at Eau Claire, WI. They
moved to Portland in 1942. Mr.
Jarvis died in 1966. She later
married Kemp Dick in 1968.
June enjoyed crafts, bingo and
lodge meetings.
Survivors include her husband;
sons, Donald Jarvis and Steven
Jarvis, both o f Portland; daugh­
ters, Sonja Frye o f Oregon City,
K athryn Weeg o f P o rtland,
Sandra Moyer o f Ocean Park,
WA, and Stephanie Glover o f
Bethel Island, CA; stepsons,
Daryl Dick of Gresham and Den­
nis and Gary Dick, both of New­
port; stepdaughter Diane Dick
Snider of Olympia, WA; brother,
James A. Cousins o f San Jose,
CA; 16 grandchildren; 18 great­
grandchildren; and one step-
great-grandchild.

Judy Gochnauer, North Bend,
formerly of Heppner, died Sun­
day, August 17, 1997, at North
Bend. Funeral services were held
Saturday, August 23, 1997 at the
Emmanuel Episcopal Church,
Coos Bay.
Mrs. G ochnauer graduated
from Spearman High School,
Texas, in 1955, and West Texas
State University in 1959 with a
degree in English education. She
taught ju n io r high in Texas,
Heppner and Crestón, WA, until
1984.
She was involved in many ac­
tivities, including Bible studies
and Christian W omen’s Club.
Her main interests focused on her
grandchildren.
Mrs. Gochnauer is survived by
her husband, John of North Bend;
and daughters, Lynne Guhlke,
M elody N uxoll, and Cindy
Gochnauer and families in Dav­
enport and Spokane, WA. She
was preceded in death by her son
Kenneth, in 1984.

Buel C. Harshman

Buel C. Harshman, 78, died
Thursday, August 21, 1997 at
Pioneer Memorial Hospital in
Heppner. Graveside service was
held Tuesday, August 26,1997 at
the Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
He was bom June 29, 1919 at
Hardman, the son of Harvey and
Anna Sperry Harshman. He was
raised in the Hardman-Eight Mile
area and attended the Hale Ridge
School.
He was an outdoorsman apd
was raised on his father’s sheep
ranch. He had a logging business
and then worked for Weyerhauser
and his son Jerry’s logging opera­
tion.
Mr. Harshman spent most of
the past 60 years in the Klamath
Falls area and the Dayton and
Walla Walla, WA areas.
He served with the US Army
during World War II.
His marriages to Maxine Way
and Jody Weddle ended in di­
vorce. He married Betty Pagura,
who passed away in January
1991. On December 4, 1991, he
m arried Nina Cox Denton at
Carson City, NV.
Survivors include his wife,
Nina Harshm an o f Heppner;
daughter Nancy Ward of Walla
Walla; sons Jerry Harshman of
W aitsburg, WA, and Larry
Harshman of Milton-Freewater;
stepdaughters Jeannie Powell of
Idaho City, ID, Carol Rogers of
Bremerton, WA, Joyce Pagan of
Gilroy, CA, and Claudia Sherman
o f Spokane; stepsons, Colin
Pagura of Klamath Falls, Forrest
Burkenbine o f H eppner, and
Arthur Burkenbine of Hermiston;
a brother, Everett Harshman of
Heppner; and numerous grand­
children and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
son, Gary; a brother, Lloyd; and
sisters Irene Howard and Delcie
May Waldon.

Morrow County District Attor­
ney William Hanlon has con­
ducted the following case:
Candelano Camon Mendoza,
37, of Boardman, was convicted
of Rape 1 - A/Felony on May 28,
1997, and was sentenced by Judge
Jeffrey Wallace to 120 months
in the Oregon Dept, of Correc­
tions with 20 years post-prison
supervision with the following
conditions that he have no con­
tact with the victim’s family, no
contact with the victim, be de­
ported, register as a sex offender,
submit to an HIV test, submit to
blood sample for DNA testing,
and that pnson time will run con­
secutive to case #95 CF 74. He
was also convicted o f Sexual
Abuse 1 - B/Felony on May 28,
1997, and was sentenced by Judge
Jeffrey Wallace to 18 months in
the Oregon Dept, of Corrections
to run consecutive to Count I
above and case #95 CF 74.
Mendoza was also convicted of
another count o f Rape 1 -A/
Felony on May 28,1997, and was
sentenced by Judge Jeffrey
Wallace to 70 months in the Or­
egon Dept, of Corrections and 20
years post-prison supervision
with the following conditions that
he have no contact w ith the
victim’s family, no contact with
the victim, be deported, register
as a sex offender, submit to an
HIV test, submit to blood sample
for DNA testing and pay unitary
assessment of $94. He was also
convicted o f another count of
Sexual Abuse 1-B/Felony on May
28, 1997 and was sentenced by
Judge Jeffrey W allace to 18
months in the Oregon Dept, of
Corrections and a unitary assess­
ment o f $94.
Jesse Eugene Lewis, age not
given, of Heppner, was convicted
on Recklessly Endangering An­
other- A/Misdemeanor on July 24,
1997 and sentenced by Judge Jef­
frey Wallace to three years pro­
bation, six months in jail sus­
pended with the following con­
ditions that he forfeit gun/
weapon, have no weapon, violate
no laws and pay $118 in fees and
assessments.

Cornett Green
Alex Cornett Green, 85, of
Heppner, died Sunday, August
24, 1997, at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital in Heppner.
The funeral was Tuesday, Au­
gust 24,1997 at the United Meth­
odist Church in Heppner, with
concluding service and burial at
the Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Green was bom December
16,1911, at Heppner, to Alex and
Mattie Bryant Green. He grew up
in Heppner and attended local
schools and graduated from
Heppner High School in 1930.
He attended Binkey-Walker
Business College in Portland,
then returned to Heppner.
On March 5, 1932, he married
Florence French at Pendleton.
Mr. G reen m anaged grain
warehouses for Balfour Guthrie
and Company and Intenor Ware­
house Company for a number of
years. He owned and operated
C ornett Green Feed Store in
Heppner.
Mr. Green enjoyed and assisted
with Morrow County Fair and
Rodeo activities. He won the
Morrow County Saddle at the
1965 rodeo. He was honored as
grand marshal o f the Morrow
