Five tie for Morrow County all-around honors
Five cowboys and cowgirls tied
for the all-around honors at the
Morrow County Rodeo held
August 17 in Heppner. All-
around winners were Steve
Currin, Tern Gentry, Jim
Lunders, Lacey Matteson and
Ryan Matteson. Currin won the
drawing
for
the
buckle,
sponsored by Les Schwab.
Emmett Evans took first in the
amateur calf roping with 42.2
second average and won the
saddle sponsored by Kinzua
Resources. Justin Matteson was
second with 45.9 seconds
average. Evans tied for second
and third place with Dick Temple
in the first go with 24.6 and was
first in the second go with 17.6.
Matteson was first in the first go
with 14.6. Shad Bishop took
second place in the second go
with 20.3.
The team of Jim Ward and
Steve Currin took the team
roping buckle, sponsored by
Heritage Land Company and
Pettyjohn's Farm Builders Supply
with an average of 45.7 for three
go-rounds. The team of Justin
and Ryan Matteson was second
with 53.7 and the team of Bob
Steagall and John Moyer, third,
with 61.0.
. Cliff Dougherty and Steve
Miller were first in the first go
with a 10.1. Miller teamed with
Steve Currin for a second place
in the first go with a time of 12.5
and Chuck Matteson and Butch
Knowles were third in the first go
with 14.8 seconds.
Ward and Currin were first in
the second go with 8.3 seconds
and the father-son team of Brian
and Butch Knowles were second
with 8.9 seconds. Steagall and
Moyer were third with a 10.7.
Cliff Doherty won the open
calf roping buckle, sponsored by
VanMarter and Kahl Insurance,
and the Neil Beamer Memorial
spurs. Dougherty finished with a
time of 12.3. Steve Cumn was
second with a 15.9 and Bill
Bishop, third, with a 16.7.
Kelli Currin won the senior
barrels and a watch from
Peterson's Jewelers with a time
of 17.71. Lexi Matteson was

Ryan Matteson was first with 69
points. He won a buckle
sponsored by Coast to Coast. Jim
Lunders was second with 62 and
Jeremy Vandeventer was third
with 57.
Che Green took the mutton
bustin' buckle, sponsored by
Court Street Market, with 73
points. Willy Gentry and Cody
Hollis tied for second and third
with 68 apiece and Ethan Ellis
was fourth with 65 points.
Stefan Matheny won the nine-
13 calf riding buckle in a
drawing. There were no rides,
but ground money was paid to
contestants Kyler Lovgren, Sloan
Keithley, Bnanne Wishart, Dave
Flynn and Matheny.

Annie Hisler was the winner for
the junior barrels with a time of
17.91. She won a buckle
sponsored by the Healy family.
Lacey Matteson was second with
17.95; Jaylene Papineau, third,
with 18.29; and Amy Papineau,
fourth, with 18.91.
Pee wee barrels winner was
Ashley Ward with 18.37. Second
was Sammi Lane with 18.66;
third, Kalah Lane, 19.66; and
fourth, Madison Bailey, 20.21.
Ward won a buckle sponsored by
the Wranglers Riding Club.
Lisanne Currin won the break­
away breast collar sponsored by
Green Feed and Seed with her
first place time o f 3.9. Terri
Gentry was second with 6.3.
Gentry was the winner of the 14
and over goat tying buckle,
sponsored by Gar Aviation-John
and Kelli Boyer. She had a time
of 13.0. Bobbie Rankin was
second with a time of 17.3.
Lacey Matteson won the nine-
13 goat tying buckle, sponsored
by Dick Temple, DVM. She had
a time of 16.8.
Jim Lunders took first in the
steer wrestling with a time of 6.1
and won the buckle, sponsored
by Turner Ranch. Keith Papineau
was second with 6.5.
