Everyone is noticing the freshly
painted
flower
boxes,
overflowing with flowers lining
main street in lone, or they may
have sat in one of the new park
benches.
The North Lex Livestock 4-H
Club members showed their
community pride by assembling
these park benches and repairing,
planting, and painting the flower
boxes. Two days were spent
completing this project.
The club began by hammering in
loose nails and giving the flower
boxes a facelift with redwood
paint. The 4-Her’s met again to
fill the boxes with junipers and
flowers that are now in full
bloom.
Master Gardener Birdine Tullis
and Laurel Cannon provided
their expertise to the novice 4-H
members and lone Market
provided refreshments for the
hard-working crew.
The North Lex Livestock Club
was one of 10 in Oregon to
receive the 1997 "Growing with
Community Service Gardening
Project", made possible by
Chevron USA and the 4-H
Foundation.
The project was
selected for its demonstration of
community service and need,
f e a s ib ility ,
c re a tiv ity ,
involvement of 4-H members and
the completeness of the grant
application.
The North
Lex Livestock Club members’
gardening efforts provided an
opportunity to "learn by doing."
