to hold barbecue
Lifeguard training class scheduled
A Lifeguard Training class will
be held in lone, starting this Fri
day, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the
lone pool.
In this course, the students will
leam about the duties and respon
sibilities o f a lifeguard. Students
will leam a number o f life-guard
ing techniques appropriate to
lifeguarding at a swimming pool
facility. Participants must be 15
years o f age and in good enough
physical condition to pass a pre-
session skills test.
Upon successful completion o f
the class, participants will receive
an American Red Cross L ife
guard Training certificate (which
includes First Aid skills), good for
three years. In addition, students
will receive a certificate in CPR
for the p rofession al rescuer,
which is valid for one year.
The initial meeting for the class
will be June 20 with the subse
quent sessions to be scheduled at
that time. The course consists o f
11 three-hour sessions. Partici
pants should bring their calendar
for scheduling and a swimsuit for
skills test to the first class.
Cost o f the course is $60 tuition
plus $37 for books and fees. Pre
registration is required. For more

The W illow Creek Country
Club will have a family barbecue
on Sunday, June 22, at 4 p.m.
Each family w ill bring their
own meat to barbecue. T hose
whose last names begin with “A ”
through “K” should bring salad,
and “L” through “Z”, dessert.
Hosts will be John and Sonja
McCabe, John and Kelly Boyer,
Del and Linda LaRue, and Dick
and Nancy Snider.
OES plans free pops concert
Outer space will be the theme
o f the upcoming Oregon East
Symphony Annual Pops Concert
this Sunday, June 22, at 8 p.m. at
the outdoor amphitheater by the
Double Tree Inn (formerly the
Red Lion) in Pendleton. If it is
raining, the concert will move to
the Vert Auditorium.
Songs featured include: the
theme from Star Wars, Star l'rek
through the years, Apollo 13,
Theme from 2001: A Space
Odyssey, selections from E.T.,
and two patriotic numbers, the
Star Spangled Banner, and Stars
and Stripes Forever, which will
feature a surprise conductor.
Families are invited to come
and enjoy an evening o f music.
There is no charge for admission
Five Heppner musicians will
perform in the concert Sharia
Erich, viola; Laura McElligott,
cello; Delanne Ferguson and
Kathryn Unruh, violin; and Matt
Jepsen, bass violin.
A sound and light show by 3-D
Sound will highlight the night
time performance.

NOTICE OF SESSION
MORROW COUNTY BOARD
OF RATIO REVIEW
Notice is hereby given that on
July 2, 1997, at 9:00 a.m., the
Board of Ratio Review o f the
County of Morrow, Oregon, will
meet at the county courthouse in
Heppner, Oregon, to:
-Examine the assessor’s certi
fied ratio study.
-Make recommendations to the
assessor regarding changes in
property value resulting from the
effect of events or activities oc
curring outside property.
-Hear petitions for reduction of
the real market value of property
because of changes in the real
market value of the property oc
curring after July 1 and on or be
fore June 30 of the prior tax year.
-Act on recommendations from
the assessor made under ORS
308.242 when no petition has
been filed.
Meetings to examine the certi
fied ratio study will be held be
tween July 2 and August 10. The
exact time of the meeting will be
posted prior to the meeting in Post
Offices at Boardman, Heppner,
lone, Imgon and Lexington.
Petitions for reduction of the
prior year’s value of property
must be filed with the county
clerk on or after July 1 and no
later that July 15 immediately
following the end of the tax year
for which the petition is filed.
Hearings for appeals o f the
prior year’s values will be held
between July 15 and July 31. A
schedule of hearings for those
who request to be present will be
posted 48 hours pnor to the meet
ing at the Post Offices in Board-
man, Heppner, lone, Irrigon and
Lexington.
Executive sessions may be held
during the session as required by
ORS 308.290(7), ORS 308,411,
and ORS 308.413.
A ll other hearings w ill be
scheduled as time allows. If you
have requested to be present at the
hearing you will be notified o f the
time and place to appear. Contact
the board o f ratio review clerk for
further information.
It shall be the duty o f the per
sons interested to appear at the
time and place appointed.
