Chamber Chatter
By Claudia Hughes. Chamber Manager
"Chamber Chaos" might be a
more appropriate name for this
column during the Main Street
project! Anyone who says it's
going to be easy would possibly
be stretching the truth. The
challenge is to keep the finished
vision in sight. A1 Frye of
Weaver Construction was up
front and honest with the
community and hopes that the
community will do the same in
dealing with him.
Should
problems arise (and they will), he
encourages businesses to come to
him immediately to face them
head on.
The most immediate focus is
finding adequate parking for
customers and putting up signs
so they know where to go.Your
Chamber director is challenging
all employees and business
owners to see who can tally up
the most "park and walk" miles
over the course of the. project.
That will free-up parking for
customers, while hopefully
taking pounds off "some of us."
While I can't walk from home, I
do pledge to walk from the grade
school. Will you join me?
Main Street Renovation won't
stop the BMW Riders of Oregon.
Aproximately 200 to 400 will be
arriving beginning June 19 and
leaving June 22. They will camp
at the fairgrounds, enjoying local
offerings and patronizing our
businesses. We'll invite them
back when the project is
complete. Chamber members
will leam more about this "Chief
Joseph Motorcycle Rally" from
Gary Oberg during Chamber on
June 17.
Ambassadors wanted are you
enthusiastic? Do you like to have
fun? Do you enjoy making
people feel good and meeting
new people? It's seems like a
great time to kick off the
Chamber Ambassadors, who
would be instumental in assisting
the Chamber director in creative
events to keep community spirits
alive and well during the Main
Street Renovation. Call the
Chamber office or visit with
Doris Brosnan of Twice Upon A
Time, if you want to be part of a
great summer in Heppner. A
"Hard Hat" get-together will be
scheduled for the mid part of
June as soon as I return from the
N o r th w e s t
E c o n o m ic
Development Conference in
Ellensberg, Washington.
Thought for the week: "If you
only look at what is, you might
never attain what could be."
