Choir, symphony
plan performance
The South Morrow Community
Choir and the Willow Creek
Youth Symphony will perform
jointly for a spring concert on
Sunday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at St.
Patrick Catholic Church in
Heppner.
Deborah Wryn, lone, is the
director o f the choir and Shana
Erich,
Heppner,
is
the
accompanist. Erich is also the
director of the symphony. Both
groups are looking forward to
shanng their music with the
community with a variety of
music by both the choir and
symphony, said Wryn.
The choir has prepared a
variety of music for this concert.
One is a Irish song that is titled
"Be Thou My Vision." A ballad
jazz piece, called "Sing Me To
Heaven", is also included. A
trumpet duet, Paul Marshall and
Matt Jepsen, will accompany the
choir on Handel’s "Awake the
Trumpet's Lofty Sound."
The Brass Quintet will again
perform with the choir for the
piece, "Exultate Justi". Members
of the group are Matt Jepsen,
trumpet, Paul Marshall, trumpet,
and Bill Jepsen, trombone, all of
Heppner; Danny Hunt, secondary
music director from Umatilla,
French horn, and Isaac Lynch, a
student at Umatilla High School,
tuba.
The symphony will also perform
an array of music, from Jacques
Offenbach's "Can Can from
Orpheus In the Underworld" to a
recent piece titled, "The Wind
Beneath My Wings".They will
also perform several serious
selections such as the "William
Tell Overture", "In The Hall Of
The Mountain King", and the
"Unfinished Symphony", written
by Franz Schubert.
The symphony and the choir
will also perform on Tuesday,.
June 3, at Riverside High School
auditorium at 7 p.m. for the
people of north Morrow County.
Everyone is invited to attend
either or both concerts. The
program will be the same in both
places.
Both groups are members of
the Morrow County Arts Council
that was formed in May of 1996.
The choir has been in existence
since 1984 and the symphony
was formed two years ago.
Funds for both groups this year
has come from the Morrow
County Unified Recreation
District who helped purchase
music, risers and stands. The
concert is free of charge, but a
donation basket will be available
to continue the support of both of
these groups, said Wryn.
Both groups will be on hiatus
until September.
