Fishing Derby planned June 8
classes set
A hunter education course has
been scheduled for the Heppner
area. The course will be held on
June 5, 12, 13, 19 and 20.
The first session will be from
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Forest
Service office in Heppner. The
sessions on June 13 and 20 will
be from 1-4 p.m. As a general
rule, all five sessions should be
attended for the student to pass.
Another class may not be
offered in the area this summer
and so kids who need a hunter's
education class should attend this
one.
In addition to learning safe
hunting techniques, students
taking this class will leam proper
hunter ethics, basic wildlife
management and outdoor skills.
The course is required for all
hunters younger than 18 (unless
they hunt on their own property)
in Oregon. Anyone interested or
for more information, call Russ
Morgan at 676-5230 (days) or
676-5729 (evenings).
There is no fee for the course.
The annual kids' fishing derby,
sponsored by the U.S. Forest
Service, the Heppner Lions Club
and the Mid Columbia Bass
Club, will be held Sunday, June
8, at the boat ramp at the Willow
Creek Reservoir.
The derby, open to kids 12 and
under, will get underway with
registration at noon at the boat
ramp at the Willow Creek
