budget for Morrow County, Mor­
row County State of Oregon, for
the fiscal year July 1, 1997 to
June 30, 1998 will be held at the
Morrow County Courthouse.

hearing is to discuss the budget

ADVERTISEMENT
FOR BIDS
The Morrow County Health
District requests bids for the
construction of a medical clinic
in Irrigon, Oregon. Sealed bids
will be received by the district
not later than 4:00 p.m. on June
9, 1997 at the District offices
located at 564 E. Pioneer Drive,
Heppner, OR 97836. Bids re­
ceived after that time will be
rejected. Bids should be ad­
dressed to Kevin Erich, Ad­
ministrator. Bids will be publicly
opened at 4:30 p.m. on June 9,
1997.
The clinic construction shall
consist of the remodeling of an
existing building plus a small
addition to be of stick type con­
struction. Specifications for the
clinic may be reviewed, and bid
packages obtained, at District
offices at the above address.
Each bid must state whether
the bidder is a "resident bidder"
as defined in ORS 279.029. Bids
will not be received or con­
sidered by the District unless
they contain a statement by the
bidder as part of each bid that the
provisions of ORS 279.350
(prevailing wages) are to be
complied with. The District
reserves the right to reject any
bid not in compliance with all
prescribed public bidding pro­
cedures and requirements, and
may reject to do so. No bid will
be received or considered unless
the bidder is registered with the
Construction Contractors Board
or licensed by the State Land­
scape Contractors Board as re­
quired by ORS 671.530

has deployed to Bosnia-
Herzegovina in support of
Operation Joint Guard.
Operation Joint Guard, formerly
referred to as Operation Joint
Endeavor/Determined Effort, is a
NATO sponsored joint, multi­
national peace-keeping mission
in
Bosnia-Herzegovina,
a
republic
of
the
former
Yugoslavia.
Soldiers from 25 countries are
supporting the effort designed to
promote and speed the peace
process inked in December 1995
at Wright-Patterson Air Force
Base, Dayton, Ohio. The U.S.
soldiers serve at various mission
support bases and camps in
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Neubert, a military policeman,
is the daughter of A1 and Joyce
Hensley of Irrigon.
She graduated in 1988 from
Riverside
High
School,
Boardman, and received a
bachelor of science degree in
1992 from Eastern Oregon State
College, La Grande.

Heppner Day Care held an M S. Hop-a-thon on March 28, raising $340.50 to go toward the fight against

Tracie Dickenson clears the high jump for first place
The Heppner boys track
team came home with 15th
place , and the girls tied for
15th place at the state 2A track
meet in M onmouth over the
weekend.
Tracie Dickenson was the
standout for the Heppner
teams, taking first place in the
high jump. She cleared 5' 3" to
win state, but missed the
school record o f 5' 5 1/2" held
set by Maureen Healy in 1978.
The girls team scored 17
points.
Other
scoring
included: Freshman Abby
Kahl fourth in the 800 meters
and the Heppner team seventh
in the 1,600 m eter relay.
On the boys team Jared
Eckman and David Michael
provided most o f the scoring
there. Eckman took second
place in the high jum p with a
leap o f 6' 2", a personal best
for the sophomore.
M eanwhile M ichael scored:
seventh in the 110 high
hurdles, sixth in the 300 meter
intermediate hurdles and sixth
in the triple jum p.

Utility Workers
The City of Heppner is re­
cruiting two, full-time temporary
summer utility workers. These
positions will be full-time (40 hrs/
wk.) for an eleven (11) week pe­
riod beginning July 7, 1997 and
ending Sept. 19, 1997. The posi ­
tions will pay $8.53/hour.
The positions involve manual
labor, which may include the op­
eration of motorized yard equip­
ment, street repair operations,
painting, park maintenance, brush
clearing, lifting and removal of lit­
ter and debris, and general duties
related to outdoor public works
operations. Applicants must pos­
sess the ability to safely operate
motorized yard equipment and fol­
low oral and written instructions.
Good physical condition is neces­
sary to enable strenuous tasks
outdoors in all types of weather.
A valid Oregon driver's license is
required. Due to the nature of the
work, the State of Oregon, Bu­
reau of Labor and Industries, re­
quires that applicants be 18 years
of age or older.
