Mustangs beat state champs Pilot Rock
By Lonnie Rill
The Heppner Mustangs
faced o ff against the defending
state champions, the Pilot
Rock Rockets on Tuesday,
April 29, in Heppner. The
Mustangs
defeated
the
Rockets, 8-7.
The Mustangs took the lead
from the very beginning,
rocking Pilot Rock pitcher
LaBruce. Mustang pitcher Eric
Schonbachler pitched a good
game, striking out four Pilot
Rock hitters in the first three
innings,
including
Matt
Hoisington.
Heppner never let the lead
fall out o f their hands. The
Rockets made a strong run at
the lead in the sixth and
seventh innings, but strong
defensive
play
by
Jeff
Waterland, Shane Matheny
and Josh Coiner held the one-
run lead. The tie run was taken
away by a foul ball. A ground
out to the short stop ended the
game in the Mustangs' favor.
Heppner played Saturday,
May 3, in Umatilla.

Chamber Chatter
By Claudia Hughea, Chamber Manager
Life is seldom boring in the
Chamber office. This morning
started out as a regular day until
a visitor opened the Chamber
door and the first thing through
was a wee sparrow, which had no
intention of being caught right
away. Thanks to the visitor's
persistence, crawling around on
the floor and utilizing all
available resources, the sparrow
eventually had its freedom.
Guess it was just a reaffirmation
that all visitors are welcome at
the Heppner Chamber of
Comnmerce.
The People For The Pool time
capsule is such a great idea.
There is a 10-day window for
people to donate to the capsule,
which will be sealed in a wall
and opened in the year 2050.
Students, merchants, senior
citizens, churches, etc., are
encouraged to contribute, so that
when it's opened, Willow Creek
Valley 1997 will be a reality for
those present. If you were to
open a 53-year old capsule now,
what would you like to learn
from it?
What a great topic
for dinner table conversation.
Bring your contributions to the
Chamber Office or to People For
the Pool members.
Chamber members will want to
mark their calendars to attend
Business After Hours at TKO,
Thompson-Krein Outdoors, on
Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. TKO
offers guided hunts, Balm Fork
Lodge Rental and off-season
activities, including fishing, bird
watching, hiking, horseback
riding (your own horse) and
peace and quiet.
TREO is another farm/ranch

member
For
individuals interested in a similar
business, there is a farm/ranch
recreation
workshop
being
offered May 16-18 at Rock ^ w
Springs Guest Ranch. When The
Farm is open, visitors will be
eager to have a farm/ranch
experience in Heppner, "where
rural is for real".
Call the
Chamber Office for more
information.
The Columbia Plateau Stage
Race will again take place in
Heppner. Racers will depart at 1
p.m. on Friday, May 9, (Stage 1)
and return during the afternoon
of May
11
(Stage 4).
Registration forms are available |
at the Chamber and the visitor
information rack in the Wells
