lone, Heppner track teams compete

lone and Heppner high schools'
track teams competed at the
Grant Union Invitational track
meet held April 22.
Eleven teams from 3A, 2A and
1A schools competed in the
meet. The lone boys' team (77
points) and the Heppner girls'
team (77 points) both finished
third. The lone girls' team took
fourth place with 60 points and
the Heppner boys' team was
eighth with 22.
Grant Union beat Prairie City
105 to 98 for the boys' team title
and Bums took the girls meet
with 179 points. Runner up was
Grant Union with 91.
For lone, Luke Swanson took
first in the 110 meter hurdles
with a season best 16.48 seconds
and first in the pole vault at 11 -0.
He finished second in the high
jump with a 6-0 and 100 meter
run with 11.71.
Jacob Taylor took first in the
400 with a season best 52.89 and
Joe Bacon took first in the triple
jump with a 40-1 1/2 and third in
the high jump at 5-10.
For the lone girls, Brenda
Burright finished first in the
hurdles in 18.21 and Suzie
Heideman, second in the shot put
at 30-10.
For the Heppner girls, Amber
Peck took first place in the 100
meters with 13.40 and second in
the 200 at 28.09. Casey Ingraham
finished third in the triple jump
for a school record at 31-10,
beating her old record of 31-0
1/2.
Traci Dickenson took
second in the high jump at 5-0 .
Peck, Ingraham, Dickenson and
Lindsey Waterland, took second
for HHS in the 4x100 relay with
a time of 52.72.
The lone High School track
team also competed at the Joseph
High School track meet. Fifteen
teams participated in the meet.
The lone boys captured fourth
in the meet. Joe Bacon took first
in the triple jump, third in the
long jump and fifth in the high
jump. Luke Swanson was first in
the hurdles, third in the pole
vault and fourth in the 100
meters. Jon Garrett finished
second in the 1500 meters and
Jacob Taylor was fourth in the
400 meters and sixth in the 800
meters.
The lone girls took 10th place
in the meet, with Nikki
McElligott third in the high
jump, Suzie Heideman third in
the javelin and fourth in the shot
put and Katie Garrett fourth in
the discus.

Heppner High School Golf

went to Pendleton to play
Saturday, April 19. Heppner
didn't have the medalist but did
compete for placing. Medalist
Clint Morgan, Enterprise, golfed
a 71 to lead the pack. La Grande
took the placing with a combined
score of 305 for their five
players.
Heppner came in
seventh with a 360, behind
McLaughlin, Enterprise, The
Dalles, Pendleton and Grant
Union.
Brent Gunderson, of Heppner
came in eighth out of the pack of
50. Other Heppner scores are as

101; Travis Winters, 101; and
Chris Jones, 93.

Kindergarten Visitation
Kindergarten visitation will be held at Heppner Elementary

Rolling Hills Run held Saturday
morning, April 26, in Heppner
were local runners.
A1 Beck of Heppner was the
men's 10K winner w'lth a time of
36.45. The 5K winners were
men-Chris

Heppner with a time of 20.55,
and women-Nicole VanEtta, also
Heppner, with a time of 25.23.
Winner of the women's 10K
was Jill Bannister, Pendleton,
with a time of 40.21.
The run was sponsored by the
South Morrow County EMT
Association.
Organizer and EMT Bill
Sheirbon said that 57 people
registered for the event this year.

and walkers came from lone,
Lexington, Heppner, Hermiston,
Pendleton, Boardman, John Day,
Prairie City, Weston, Portland
and Reno, Nevada. Sheirbon said
that a group of walkers who
participated were getting ready
for the "Hood to Coast Run".
Breakfast was available at the
Heppner Elks Club following the
race. The Elks donated the use of
the building and some of the food
for the breakfast.
Proceeds from entry fees and a
barbecue raffle raise money for
the EMT Association for
purchases for ambulances in
Heppner and Lexington and the
First Response vehicle stationed
