1934 alum spots HHS web page
Heppner High School has
definitely joined the computer
age. The school now has a web
page on the Internet and that web
snagged the attention of a
Heppner High School alumnus in
Arizona who had been surfing
the net. HHS Principal Ron
Anthony shared the story with
the Morrow County School
Board at their meeting Monday
Night.
Following is the e-mail message
from the 1934 HHS alumnus, the
Rev. Dr. Francis B. Nickerson, to
Heppner High School, in care of
HHS technology teacher Dave
Fowler and students who
designed the web page, Robby
Schultz and David Michael.

in Heppner. The guys were all
great and the girls beautiful. We
had fun even though the school

to have school dances. Four o f

The student body had about 120

Help needed to identify Heppner house
To the Editor,
My great-grand uncle was
Justus L. Simpson, a Civil War
veteran who moved to Heppner
in 1907 and died there in 1917.
He was buried in Heppner
Masonic Cemetery on Cemetery
Hill next to his wife, Susan E.
Clemans, who died in 1939. I
visited his gravesite last summer,
the first relative from back east
ever to do so to my knowledge.
I was hoping that you or one of
your readers could identify the
house
in
the
enclosed
photograph. It was taken in
December o f 1910 and shows
Justus and Susan standing in the
front yard. We tried and failed to
identify it during our stay in
Heppner. The only clue I have is
that it might be somewhere in
western Heppner.
Thank you in advance for your
time and consideration.

Rockets
defeat
Heppner
By Lonnie Rill
The Pilot Rock Rockets,
defending state champions, took
both games from Heppner in the
double header this weekend in
Pilot Rock.
Pilot Rock gained ground on a
couple blown calls by the
officials. Heppner hung in with
a barrage of batting by their
hitters. Heppner was led by
pitcher Tim Sumner and
shortstop Eric Schonbachler.
The effort wasn't enough to
clinch the first game for
Heppner.
Heppner played harder in the
second game, starting the game
out in the first inning, 3-2. Pilot
Rock came back to take the lead
after the second.
Tim Sumner was robbed by the
umpire on a home run that went
over the left-center field fence
and was called a ground rule
double. The play was saddened
by a Pilot Rock player running
into the fence. Heppner made a
run but fell short again in the
second game, losing 16-11.
