clinics this month
The Morrow County Health
Department has scheduled a
senes o f free immunization
clinics throughout the county.
The free clinics will be held in
lone on Wednesday, April 23,
from 3-6 p.m.; and in Heppner on
Thursday, Apnl 24, from noon to
6 p.m.
Clinics will also be held in
Imgon on Monday, April 21,
from 1-6 p.m.; and in Boardman
Tuesday, April 22, from noon to
6 p.m.

Kool Kitchen Kids

On Feb. 28, the Kool Kitchen
Kids met at Tami Rietmann’s
house.
Jode Coil called the meeting to
order. A few minutes later, Kylee
Disque read her article. Then
Shanna Rietmann, the secretary,
did the roll call and everybody was
there.
Members talked about what
they were going to make. They
were going to make two kinds of
cookies. Blair, Linsey and Chelsea
were making sugar and spice
cookies. Jode, Madison, Shanna
and Kylee were making peanut
butter chocolate chip cookies.
Here are the recipes:
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
Cookies
1/2 cup butter or margarine,
softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 /2 cup chunky peanut butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet
chocolate chips
In a mixing bowl, cream butter
and sugars; beat in peanut butter,
egg and vanilla. Combine flour,
oats, baking soda and salt; stir into
the cream ed m ixture. Stir in
chocolate chips. Drop by rounded
tablespoonfuls onto ungreased
baking sheets. Bake at 350 de
grees F. for 10-12 minutes or until
golden brown. Cool one minute
before removing to a wire rack.
Yield: two dozen cookies.
Sugar and Spice Cookies
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
Combine together and beat
with mixer until smooth.
Add:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cloves
Mix together and drop by
rounded tablespoons on a cookie
sheet. Bake eight minutes, re
move from sheet to cookie racks.
Store in airtight container.
DEQ meeting set
The Department of
Environmental Quality (DEQ)
will have an informational
meeting on Thursday, April 10,
at the Hermiston Community
Center.
An open house is
scheduled from 5-7 p.m. and
DEQ staff will be available to
questions. DEQ staff will give a
presentation about the permit
modification process from 7-7:30
p.m.

County Court to a four-year term
on
the
Morrow
County
Commission on Children and
Families.

departments,
agricultural complex, computer
lab, and bookstore.
A free hot dog meal will be
available to those visiting
campus and a one term, free
tuition give-away will be held.

Dinner set for BMCC's Ron Daniels
The Blue Mountain
Community College Board of
Directors invites area residents to
a retirement dinner recognizing
long-time BMCC president Ron
Daniels. The dinner will be held

Aging topic of teleconference
The Oregon Geriatric
Education Center and the Oregon
State
University
Extension
Service are co-sponsoring a free
teleconference designed for the
general public titled, " Aging
Well: Important Issues for
Women's Health in the Later
Years."
Experts from the Department
o f Health Breast Cancer
Awareness Coalition and the
Oregon Pacific Area Health
Education Center will present
current and practical information
on two topics central to women's
health aging: breast health and
disease; and osteoporosis. Risk
factors, prevention, treatment and
management for both health
issues will be discussed.

10, from 9-11 a.m. and can be

room in Heppner, St. Anthony's
Hospital in Pendleton and Good

Commission to offer assistance
The Morrow County Comission
on
Children
&
Families
(MCCCF) is offering financial
assistance to families with
children with disabilities for
respite care
"Families with children with
special needs often have a need
for a few hours or days away
from these children to 'catch their
breath'
from the stressful
enviroment they deal with on a
daily basis," said Dar Merrill,
MCCCF director. "Disabled
children are also extremely
vulnerable to abuse," he added
In order to give both the
parents and the children a much
needed break, the commission
will offer up to $50 per month
per family to cover the cost of
respite care Families must find
their own providers, fill out a
form, and then return it to the
commission who, in turn, will
initiate payment to the provider
