Folk quartet to perform at St. Pat's
The St
Patrick's Day
Committee has announced that it
is pleased to have the Cascadia
Folk Quartet perform Saturday
evening of the St Patrick's
celebration
Members of the
Cascadia Folk Quartet have
performed in Heppner twice
before, under the name of
Whamadiddle Dingbats
They
have a song recorded which talks
about the Heppner flood of 1903
The Cascadia Folk Quartet
features the Hammer dulcimer, a
tuned percussion
instrument
thought to be the ancestor of the
piano,
The committee is also
working on setting up an
afternoon
of
entertainment
located in downtown Heppner
The afternoon will include spots
by the Doherty group, the South

Morrow Community Choir, Irish
poet Anne Callan and various
other Irish entertainers, The
Morrow County Arts Council has
been helping the St Patrick's
committee acquire entertainment
for the weekend,
One problem with bringing in
entertainment for the weekend is
finding somewhere to lodge the
entertainers, said Molly Rill of
the St Patrick's Committee
Currently lodging is needed for
the four members, of the
Cascadia Folk Quartet, as well as
for Anne Callan an Irish poet
sponsored by Chautauqua

School board to decide four or five-day week
The Morrow County School
Board, at its regular meeting
scheduled Monday. Feb 10, at
7:30 p m at Sam Boardman
Elementary School will decide
whether to continue a four-day
student week in Morrow County
Schools or return to a five-day
week
The district recently released a
survey of parents with students in
school indicating that a majority of
the parents favored a four-day
school week The district said that
445 surv eys were counted district-
wide
"Secondary parents are more in
favor than elementary parents, but
all groups favor continuing," said
a news release from the district.
According to the release, 67
percent of those returning surveys
favored continuing the four-day
week, compared to 66 percent in
1996
Twenty-four
percent
disagreed with continuing the four-
day week, compared to 21 percent
last y ear Nme pecent were neutral,
compared to 13 percent in 1996
Twenty-nine
percent
recommended a return to a five-
day student week, while 59 percent
did not recommend a return to a
five-day week and 12 percent were
neutral on that issue
Sixty -four percent of the parents
said that the believ e their children
are learning "as much" as they did
on a five day schedule: while 23
percent disagreed with that
statement and 13 percent were
neutral
Seventy-two percent of the
parents said that the four day week
"worked fine" for their families,
while 18percent disagreed and 10
percent were neutral
Nineteen percent said that the
four-day student week was a
problem for their family; 70
percent disagreed and 11 percent
were neutral.
The Morrow County Health
District, at its regular meeting
held Monday , Feb 3, at lone City
Hall, accepted a contract for
employment,
with
minor
adjustments, with Wendy Haack, a
family nurse practicioner Haack
will work at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital and Pioneer Memorial
Clinic in Heppner
The board also approved a
motion to prepare a counter offer
for a contract with Dr Robert
Boss of the Boardman clinic. Dr
Boss made a contract proposal
which was reviewed during
executive session.
In other business the board:
-learned that Faith Healy has
been hired as a part-time x-ray
technician and is
also an
ultrasound technician
-discussed plans for the Irrigon
City Hall to be remodeled to house
the new Imgon clinic
-received budget documents in
preparation for the budget meeting
planned Thursday, Feb 6, at
Imgon City Hall at 7 p m Budget

Boardman, Bill Sheirbon. lone.
Larry Mills, Heppner, and Ray
Michael, Boardman
-discussed a survey on medical
services in the county conducted
by Eastern Oregon State College,
who plan to present information a
the board's March meeting.
-discussed the anticipated loss
in revenue resulting from Measure
47.
-adopted a new personnel
policy, subject to changes
suggested.

St. Pat's Auction
set for March 15
The St Patrick’s Day Auction
will be held this year on Saturday,
March 15.
Money raised at the auction
helps support the St. Patrick's
Celebration, paying overhead
costs, such as advertising,
decoration and promotion as well
as entertainment and civic
improvements, said Delanne
Ferguson
Everyone is asked to think of
items they could donate to the
auction "It's February , and even
the cows look bored," said
Ferguson "So we can all start to
generate
some
springtime
enthusiasm by doing something
constructive and cleaning out those
closets, garages, sheds and bams "

customer appreciation day his
Saturday, from 8a.m. to 12 noon.
Activities will include their

There will also be free

The customer appreciation day
is open to all and, the public is
invited to attend.

has offered to match a $100
reward for the arrest and
corn iction of those who cut down
a fence at the Dick and Virginia

offered the first $100 after they
discovered a section of a fence on

association in the world, according
to an AAA news release Its
computerized records include
detailed information on over 12
million registered Angus
The association records ancestral
information and keeps records of
production on individual animals
for its members These permanent
records help members select and
mate the best animals in their
herds to produce high quality,
efficient breeding cattle which arc
then recorded with the AAA
Most of these registered Angus arc
used by the U S. farmers and
ranchers who raise high quality
beef for U S consumption
