The purpose of the survey is to update government estimates of family income by family size in the city. Presently available income in formation is based on 1990 census data and does not reflect local em ployment and other community changes since 1990, said Heppner City Manager Gary Marks. Survey interviews will be done by employees of the PSU Center for Population Research and Cen sus and should take no more than a minute to complete, said Marks. There will be questions about the number of residents of each house hold and the annual income of household members in 1996. The surveyors will contact a sample group of households and will use a random selection process. PSU is working with the Oregon Economic Development Dept. (OEDD), on a project funded by a grant from the U.S. Dept, of Agn- culture-Forest Service to benefit rural communities. The purpose of the project is to qualify communities for assistance from the federally funded Commu nity Development Block Grant pro gram.
