4-H News
Cool Kitchen Kids
By Kylee Disque, reporter
On Nov. 13, the Cool Kitchen
Kids met at Tami Rietmann's
house. The first order of busi
ness was to elect officers. The
new officers are Jode Coil,
president; Madison Bailey,
vice-president; Shanna Riet-
mann, secretary; and Kylee
Disque, news reporter.
The other members are Blair
Keithley, Chelsea Britt and Lin-
sey Mitchell.
At the first meeting, mem
bers earned how to measure in
gredients. They used these
new skills to make hot choco
late mix.
The next meeting is in De
cember.
Mark Miller
elected site
chairman
Mark Miller was recently
elected chairman of the Hepp
ner Elementary Site Council.
Other new officers are Kay
Chinen, vice chairperson; Pat
Hentges, secretary; Sandy
Mathews, distribution; Linda
Shaw, profile chairman; and
Tonia Adams, publicity chair
person.
Cara Osmin and Valery
Campbell presented informa
tion on a level test development
session that they had recently
attended. These new tests will
enable a student to be more ac
curately tested at their own
levels than the older version
achievement tests. These tests
will be implemented at Hepp
ner Elementary School (HES)
in January, 1997. The council
members had an opportunity
to see how the tests will work
and the feedback was "very
positive."
Vision screening was con
ducted at HES with the help of
George Naims, Sandy Mat
hews and other volunteers. Dr.
Clayton Briscoe from Pendleton
donated his time for one day.
An update was heard concer
ning the HES playground
areas. The climbing structure
between the buildings has been
lowered to less than six feet.
The large swings are being
removed from the playground
and wood chips are to be
spread out under the remain
ing equipment. These changes
were made with safety in mind.
There was some discussion
about pursuing some new
equipment.
The next council meeting will
be held on Monday, Dec. 2, at
6:30 p.m. in the HES staff
room. The public is invited to
attend and hear updates on the
new computer systems, and
the future addition to the
elementary school.
