owners owning property with­
in the territory proposed to be
annexed to the “ Fuller Canyon
Livestock District", and alter
hearing by the Morrow Coun­
ty Court, the proposed territory
was annexed to the Fuller Can­
yon Livestock District. On and
after the 16 day of December,
19%, it shall be unlawful for the
following classes of livestock to
be permitted to run at large
within the boundaries of the
livestock district: animals of the
bovine species, horses, mules,
asses, sheep, goats, swine and
“ exotic animals"; "exotic ani­
mals" include, but are not
limited to, buffalo, bison,
llama, ostrich, emu, or any
animal resulting from the cross­
breeding thereof, or the cross­
breeding of such exotic animals
with domestic animals.
ORS 607.045 provides: "N o
person owning or having the
custody, possession or control
of an animal of a class of live­
stock shall permit the animal to
run at large or to be herded,
pastured or to go upon the land
of another in a livestock district
in which it is unlawful for such
class of livestock to be permit­
ted to run at large." Violation
of this statute is an Unclassified
Misdemeanor, punishable by a
maximum penalty of one year
in the county jail and/or a fine
in the amount of $5,000.00.

Canyon Livestock District, in­
cluding the annexed territory

Mustangs smash Eagles, end season 7-2
Mustang runningback Jim Schlaich picks ups yardage against Eagles
The Heppner Mustangs
capped off a successful 19%
football season with a 38-6
win over the Wahtonka
Eagles, a team that could
have gotten to the playoffs
with a win.
The Mustangs
were eight points away from
an
undefeated
season,
sandwiching losses o f 14-13
to Weston McEwen and 7-0
to Umatilla between three
preseason wins and a streak
o f four league wins to end up
7-2. 4-2 in league and tied
with Umatilla for second
place.
The game, played before a
good crowd o f Mustang
supporters on a cold winter
night at the Morrow County
Fairgrounds, started quickly
as Heppner scored the first
time tney touched the ball.
Quarterback Brian Koffler hit
Derek Gunderson with a 60
yard bomb to open the
scoring. The PAT was
blocked and Heppner led 6-0
with 7:42 left in the quarter.
Wahtonka responded with a
72 yard kiekotf return to the
Mustang 17 yard line by
Brent Corwin. Sam Evans
crashed over from the two
vard line for an Eagle score to
knot the game at 6-6. That
was the last to be heard from
the Eagle offense for the
evening.
Heppner scored three times
in the second quarter to take a
commanding 26-6 lead at the
break. Kotfier scored from
the one yard line, hit
Ciunderson for a score and
caught a halfback pass for
another score just before the
half. On the night. Koffler
fired four touchdown passes,
ran one in and caught one for
a touchdown.
The Mustang defense again
dominated with linebacker

The Mustangs loss to
graduation is great as they
lose 14 seniors whose win-
loss record over the last three
years was 22-7.
Weston McEwen won the
league championship with a
21-14 win over the Umatilla
Vikings.
Umatilla tied
Heppner for second place and
advances to the playoffs
because of a 7-0 w in over the
Mustangs in week two of the
league season.

the Cardinals wasted no time
in the second half as they
opened up with a Swanson
pitch to halfback Joe Bacon
who then threw a 76-yard TD
pass back to Swanson.
After two Wasco County
Tds. the Cards ended the game
with a two more TD runs , one
a 50-yard run by Randy Scott
and the other a four-yard run
by Joe Bacon.
The Cardinals had a
balanced offensive night with
563 total yards led by Randy
Scott . who had 163 yards on
13 carries and three TDs.
Joe Bacon had 38 yards and
two TDs. Luke Swanson had
11-15 passing for 168 yards
and 33 yards rushing and one
TD. Jake mcElligott had nine
receptions for 145. Swanson
had 111 yards receiving and
two TD catches.
The defense was led by Marc
Orem who had 20 tackles
followed by Kelly Morgan and
Swanson with 18* tackles each.
Coach Rietmann along with
his assistants, Dennis Stcfani
and Robin Graf, were very
proud of the w ay this team put
together a 7-2 record in spite
o f some untimely injuries that
kept them out of the plavoffs.
"I have a great bunch o f kids,
especially the seniors. It's been
a great four years working
with them," Rietmann said.

The lone Cardinals finished
their 1996 football season in
style by beating the Wasco
County Redsides, 60-24.
The Redsides jumped on the
scoreboard first with the
opening kick oflfTD drive. But
the 7-2 Cardinals woke up and
scored the next 35 points. The
scoring assault started off with
a Randy Scott 21 yard TD run.
