The lone Cardinals football
team sustained a big loss
against rival Dufur Rangers, on
Friday Sept. 27. The Cards
lost, 28-24.

The lone Cardinals took the
Echo Cougars with a 67-26 vic­
tory in Big Sky conference play
Friday, Oct. 4, at Echo.
The first five touchdowns of
the game were scored by the
Cards. Echo finally put touch­
down points on the board in
the third quarter.
Freshman Dan Scott had 214
yards on 15 carries, with five
touchdowns. Allen Gribskov
added another 115 yards rush­
ing. Jake McElligott lead re­
ceivers with four catches for 41
yards, and Patrick Eberhard
was one for 23 yards.
The Cardinals play the Con­
don Blue Devils in Condon on
Thursday, Oct. 10.
Free Dom estic Violence training set
Domestic Violence Services
(DVS) will offer a free training
for prospective volunteers or
anyone who wants to learn
more about working with vic­
tims of domestic violence, on
Friday-Sunday, Oct. 11-13.
Pastors, professionals and com­
munity members are welcome
to attend.

First card party held at Rebekah Lodge

evening at the Rebekah Hall.
Refreshments were served

Friday, October 4, was a busy
day for the majority o f
Heppner High School students
with all the homecoming
hoopla, and it was especially
hectic for the Fillies JV and C-
teams since they both faced
teams from LaGrande late that
afternoon.
The action started at 5 p.m.
with the C-team losing in three
seemingly endless games, lb-
14, 10-15. 13-15. The Filly
C ’s came from behind in
Game One to nip the Tigers
for the win.
Game Two saw the teams
playing fairly evenly with the
score tied at 9 w hen La Grande
went into a live point scoring
siege. The visiting Tigers
Finished up the second game,
15-10.
In Game Three, the Heppner
C’s again found themselves in
a hole and came back from a
14-8 deficit but were unable to

succumbed , 13-15.
Coach Dana Reid said she
was pleased with her team’s
89 percent serving success for
the match.
One hundred
percent serving success for the
match came from Ashley

Amy Papineau. 3/3.
The JV’s were finally able to
take the court at 7 p.m. with
the goal o f beating the visiting
Tigers quickly so as not to
miss too much of the
Homecoming football game.
The JV Fillies realized their
goal by winning in two games,
15-3. 15-4. and being out of
the gym by 7:30 p.m.
Coach Susie Hisler noted that
Brooke Boyer and Janelle
Healy were each 6/6 from the
service line, each scoring 5
points in the effort.
HHS C-team beats Riverside
Riverside's C-team traveled
to Heppner on Monday,
October 7, for a match with
the Fillies C ’s. Heppner’s C-
team prevailed, winning in
three games, 7-15, 15-9, 15-
11 .
In Game One the Heppner
C ’s played tentatively, served
at 79 percent and were soundly
beaten by the squad from
Riverside.
Game Two started out
painfully slow with the Filly
six falling behind, 0-6.
Fourteen side outs later they
were further behind at 3-10.
Gradually the Fillies snuck
back to make the score 8-11.
Stephanie Clough surprised
the visiting Pirates by serving
up points nine through 15 to
clinch the second game.
Game Three the Filly C ’s
were leading, 14-7 when they
allowed the Pirates to come
back into the fray. The Fillies
went on to clinch the match
15-11.
Serv ice line honors for the
evening go to Laurie Michael,
6/6, Ashley Ropp, 6/6, Tracy
Rankin, 3/5, Abby Kahl, 9/10,
Amy Papineau, 9/11 and
Stephanie Clough, 11/13.
Amy Drake dominated the net
with several kills on hits and
dinks.
Granges to hold degree work
Willows Grange, with the
help of Lexington Grange, will
put on the degree work for all
candidates to be initiated on
Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Willows
Grange Hall in lone.
Dinner will begin at 12:30
p.m., with the initiation to
follow.
Members who have been
obligated are urged to come
and take the degrees.
