materials.
Also, use of chain saws is
prohibited under this special
order. These restrictions are
necessary in order to protect
resources from the possibility of
starting a wildfire. The fire
danger level is extreme, and
forest visitors are reminded to
be careful.

NOTICE OF POWER OUTAGE
All CBEC customers receiving electric service from
the Bonneville Power Administration’s Boardman
substation will be without power
Friday, August 23,1996 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
for Bonneville Power Administration maintenance.
The following general areas will be affected:
Heppner - lone - Lexington
Ruggs - Olex - Cecil - Morgan
Hinton Creek - Willow Creek - Rhea Creek
Rock Creek - Shutler Flat - Lower Willow Creek
Mikkalo - Clem - Ajax
Cooler weather, more entries
in the fair, new and entertain
ing events, bigger parade,
livestock auction, fast-moving
rodeo... what more could one
ask for during Heppner's an
nual event? Well, maybe a
band. Let's make that a goal for
next year. There must be nu
merous musicians in Morrow
County, who, with a few prac
tices, could energize the
parades in Heppner, lone,
Boardman and Irrigon... an en
tire county joint effort creating
a special kind of unity. Count
me out, though-carrying a tune
or causing a reasonable fac
simile of one to come through
an instrument is not one of my
God-given talents.
Hats off to those two pooper
scooper teams. Hard-working
they were. The ''Poop Police''
should plan to return year after
year. Should that be one of the
job descriptions of the Cham
ber of Commerce president and
vice president? It would be a
hard act to follow. Maybe they
all should repeat the perfor
mance. Their challengers, the
M CATS, gave them stiff com
petition. Fun was had by all, I
think. No more comments
here, or the job may be added
to my job description.
Fall is fast approaching for
chamber, and with it, serious
consideration being given to
the candidates' forum, ballot
measures that will affect our
rural communities, planning
for holiday eveijts, educational
programs and Town and Coun
try. Our volunteers hardly have
time to catch their breath from
one event to the next. Let's
hope "volunteer” never disap
pears from Webster's Diction
ary.
Thought for the week: "A
farmer is a person who goes
back to the soil while he's still
alive."
