There were 68 people present for the senior meal July 24 and
two meals were home delivered. Members of the Baptist Church
served. Nadine Toombs assisted Sue Cooper in cooking the din
ner, while Joyce Breeding helped Corol Mitchell in Irrigon. The
big walk-in freezer at the meal site there had gone out and
everything in it was lost. Edith Case won the free meal ticket.
Blood pressures were taken before the meal.
Children from the combined Episcopal, Methodist and
Lutheran churches Bible school, along with the ministers and
teachers, came over to sing three songs for the seniors before
dinner. It was enjoyed by the seniors and much appreciated.
The menu for Aug. 7 will be stew, spinach salad, fruit, com
bread and cookies. Members of the Episcopal Church will serve.

A big thank you to the Hepp
ner Volunter Fire Department
for the prompt and efficient
way they responded last Thurs
day to the fire that was (literal
ly) racing through the dry grass
along the hillside just above our
home. A few minutes' delay
and the entire hillside would
have been engulfed. But,
thankfully, they were there
almost as soon as the alarm
finished sounding.
Any time we hear that alarm,
some of us send up a quick
prayer for the people involved.
We all know the damage a fire
can cause. Even so, when it's
your backyard that is threaten
ed, the danger takes on a whole
new frightening dimension.
We have a new appreciation for
the dedication and expertise of
our Volunteer Firemen. Thank
you for all the homes (and
fields and yards, and who
knows what all) you protect
year round!
And thanks also to the per
son who turned in the fire
alarm last week.
