School board approves staffing
The Morrow County School
Board, at their regular meeting
Monday, May 13, approved
new staffing for 1996-97 as
recommended by the adminis­
tration and ÿudget committee.
The board approved an
$816,200 budget April 29 to
fund the new staffing posi­
tions.
New staffing includes the
following: A.C. Houghton Ele­
mentary-three 3Vi hour educa­
tional assistants; Sam Board-
man Elementary-two teachers,
five full-time ed assistants, one
3 ¥ 2 hour custodian, one dean of
students; Columbia Middle
School-three teachers, one 3Vi
hour custodian, one vice-prin-
cipal/dean of students; Hepp-
ner Elementary-one full-time
ed assistant, one 3% hour ed
assistant; Heppner High
School/Ione High School- ¥ 2
position school to careers
teacher, Vi time alternative
school teacher; special educa­
tion-two full-time ed assistants;
English as a Second Language-
one full-time teacher Board-
man, one full-time teacher Ir-
rigon, three full time ed assis­
tants Boardman, three full-time
ed assistants Irrigon; District-
one assistant superintendent,
one tech troubleshooter.
The board hired Kevin Fry,
currently dean of students at
Riverside High School, as prin­
cipal of Columbia Middle
School, for the 1996-97 school
year, replacing current prin­
cipal Don Holes, who has ac­
cepted a position with another
school district.
In other business, the board:
-heard a report from Super­
intendent Chuck Starr that the
1996-97 school lunch prices will
remain the same as this year;
-approved the transfer of
ownership of the old Irrigon
School to the city of Irrigon;
-heard a request from Ann
Murray, Heppner, to support
improvement of the Heppner
school music program;
-learned that the district has
received the final State Stan­
dards Report and that the
district is in compliance in all
areas;
-accepted the low bid of
$16,512 from Allstott-Gentry
Construction, Heppner, for a
metal roof on the district office
gym;
-received the 1996-97 co-
curricular list for June action as
follows: Heppner High School-
