May 15. 1996 H eppner track team going to state M ay 17-18 Oregon Cattlemen select new rep The Oregon Cattlemen's Association (OCA) have an­ nounced that they have selected Rod Dowse, of Red­ mond, as their new executive Heppner track team (L-R): Josie Evans, Chris Sykes, Damien Wilhelm and David Michael lone track team goes to state vice president. "There were many highly qualified and excellent appli­ cants with diverse skills and different areas of expertise that applied for the job. Rod was selected because of his know­ ledge, people skills and en­ thusiasm for the future of the cattle industry. He's young, bright and will bring a high level of excitement to the Ore­ gon Cattlemen's Association," said Sharon Beck, chairman of the search committee. Dowse, a native Oregonian, has an agribusiness manage­ ment degree from Oregon State University. His extensive back­ ground in the cattle industry in­ cludes, most recently, manag­ ing a progressive purebred cat­ tle ranch in Sequim, Washing­ ton, where he focused on marketing and customer ser­ vice. He has also judged many cattle shows throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. "H e's one of us and has dynamic leadership skills," commented Fred Otley, presi­ dent of the OCA. "It's nice to have an executive who pos­ sesses both a solid understan­ ding of the industry and or­ ganizational abilities." "These are both exciting and challenging times for our in­ dustry with issues ranging from deflated cattle prices to property rights. I am proud to serve this organization," stated Dowse. From lone are the following: Luke Swanson will compete in the 100, the 110 high hurdles, high jump, and the pole vault. Jake McElligott in the pole vault. Joe Bacon in the triple jump, and Joe Bacon, John Doherty, Jake McElligott and Jacob Taylor in the 4 X 400 relay. For the lone girls: Melissa McElligott in the 100, long jump and the triple jump. Laree Anderson in the 200, long jump and pole vault. Stephanie Lemieux in the pole vault. The lone girls relay team of LaRee Anderson, Stephanie Haguewood, Lemieux and McElligott will also compete. For Heppner the following will compete: Chris Sykes will be in the Javelin, shot put and discus. Jossie Evans in the 100 and 200 meters. Damien Wilhelm in the triple jump, and David Michael in the triple jump and 300 intermediate hurdles. Each competitor placed first or second in their event at the district meet in Hermiston over the weekend in order to qualify for the state tournament. Mellisa McElligott set school records in the triple jump and long jump at the district meet. The Morrow County Clerk's office at the courthouse in Heppner reports issuing the following marriage licenses during the past week: May 7: Jamie Castro Pacheco, 23, Boardman; and Alejandra Leon Torres, 18, Boardman.
