for Morrow County residents to
visit the exhibition at 11:15 a.m.
and 11:30 a.m. A bus will leave
H eppner at 6:30 a.m., with
stops in Lexington and lone to
pick up passengers. Another

available at the museum and
several restaurants are within
walking distance of the mu
seum. A meal stop is schedul
ed at Cascade Locks on the
return trip.
Registration for the Imperial
Tombs bus excursion will be on

Hazardous waste collection slated
Businesses and organizations
with small amounts of hazar
dous waste will have an oppor
tunity to dispose of their hazar
dous waste safely and legally at
a collection event scheduled for
Saturday, May 18, in Heppner.
The cond itio n ally exem pt
generators (CEGs) collection
event is sponsored in connec
tion with a household hazar
dous waste collection event
also scheduled May 18 in
Heppner. Waste from busi
nesses will not be accepted at
the household event.
Registration is now open for
the event, sponsored by the ci
ty of Heppner and the Oregon
Department of Environmental
Q uality (DEQ). Businesses
must register by Monday, May
6. For more information and to
obtain applications, contact the
DEQ in Pendleton at 278-4622,
or toll-free, 1-800-452-4011.
Participation is limited to
businesses that generate less
than 220 pounds (about 25
gallons) of hazardous waste per
month. DEQ classifies such
businesses as CEGs. Typical
CEGs include auto repair
shops, dry cleaners, machine
shops, farm ers, ranchers,
laboratories, printers, schools
and local governments. Hazar
dous waste generated by CEGs
includes materials such as
paints, solvents, pesticides and
other wastes that may be ig-
nitable, toxic or corrosive.
Participating businesses pay
part of the disposal cost, which
will range from $3 per gallon to
$3 per pound, depending on
the type of hazardous waste.
DEQ pays the first $25 for each
business.
To participate, businesses
must register in advance with
DEQ and certify that they are
CEGs. DEQ will then notify
businesses of the time and
place to bring their waste. The
event is not limited to busi
nesses from Heppner-busi-
nesses outside the Heppner
area may also participate.
