4-H members named ambassadors Student wins R & W design contest
More than 80 4-H members
have been selected for the 19%
4-H Ambassador program.
Mandi Gutierrez and Josie
Proctor were selected from the
Heppner area.
The ambassadors will pro­
mote the Oregon State Univer­
sity (OSU) Extension 4-H pro­
gram and participate in a varie­
ty of state, county and local ac­
tivities, according to Duane
Johnson OSU Extension 4-H
youth development specialist.
Activities include giving talks
about 4-H to com m unity
groups, setting up 4-H displays
in stores and shopping centers,
promoting 4-H activities on
radio and television talk shows
and recruiting new members.
In addition, the ambassadors
train 4-H leaders and members

and provide leadership for 4-H
educational programs at the
county and state level.
The new ambassadors will
learn more about their respon­
sibilities at the 4-H Ambassador
Weekend, June 21-22 at Linfield
College in McMinnville. The
weekend, sponsored by Ore­
gon Farm Credit System, will
include classes on life skill de­
velopment, workforce prepara­
tion and citizenship, Johnson
said.
The am bassadors w ere
chosen on the basis of their 4-H
resume, which includes a sum­
mary of their 4-H work and
community and school ac­
tivités. Some of the ambassa­
dors will be interviewed for
trips to the 19% National 4-H
Youth Congress in Memphis,
Tennessee later this year.

Truck. The truck is in a non-
operational condition.
2) A 1959 Ford F250 Dump
Truck with Snow Plow. The
truck is in an operational con­
dition.
3) A propane-heated tar pod,
used for street repair. Appa­
ratus is in an operational con­
dition.
The successful bidder(s) will be
responsible for removing the
item(s) from City property. All

NOTICE OF HEARING
The Morrow County Court
will hold a public hearing at
7:00 o'clock p.m. on Thursday,
May 9, 19%, at the Morrow
County Courthouse, Heppner,
Oregon to hear public com­
ment upon the issue of annex­
ation of territory to the Hepp­
ner Rural Fire Protection Dis­
trict. This is a first hearing on
the matter. The territory pro­
posed to be annexed lies north
and east of the City of Hepp­
ner, primarily along Hinton
Creek and Sandhollow road.
Landowners petitioning for an­
nexation are: Turner Ranch,
Inc., (by Kenneth and Jean Ann
Turner; Delanne and Michael
Ferguson; Don and Judy Bar­
ber; Mitch Ashbeck; Len and
Anne Schwartz.
Legal descriptions of the par­
cels of territory to be annexed
are on file with the Morrow
County Clerk and are available
upon request. Any interested
person may appear at the time

Medical missionary to speak at LBC
Deborah Gibbs, a pharmacist
and missionary for the Conser­
vative Baptist International mis­
sionary organization in Rwan-
guba, Zaire, Africa, will be tell­
ing about her work at the mis­
sionary hospital in Zaire, Sun­
day, April 28, at the Lexington
Baptist Church.
Gibbs will be speaking,
showing a video and telling
about her work and ministry
during both the Sunday School
hour at 9:45 a.m ., and during
the regular worship service at
11 a.m.
