which they won, to take second
place.
The Chums and Guards sent
a team composed of Emily Key,
Jannicka McGuire, Jessica Mc­
Guire, Meaghan Unruh, Emi­
ly Unruh, Heidi Kurts, Katie
Hams, Kimberly Morris, Kristal
Temple, Rhonda Wilhelm, Blair
Keithley and Cassie Gaines.
They placed third.
The Pals and Pioneers team
was composed of David Nor­
ton, Darren VanCleave, Samu­
el VanCleave, Tim Morris,
Heath Stillman, David Flynn,
Johnny Collin, Isaiah Stillman,
Nick Christman, Tom Stillman,
Jason Zinter, Andrew Westrom
and Kory Paullus. These boys
established an early lead and
maintained it throughout the 10
event competition. They plac­
ed first and each team member
received a medallion and a ban­
ner for the AWANA club.
AWANA is held weekly on
Wednesday evenings from
6:30-8 p.m. All kids in kinder­
garten through sixth grade are
welcome to attend. For more

The Pot O'Gold winners named
Three people are $100 richer
following the Heppner St.
Patrick's Pot of Gold drawing.
Winners are: Judy Rankin,
Oregon City, who won the
parade drawing; Donna
McCurdy, Heppner, who won
the O'Farley Social drawing;
and Donna Bucar, Portland,
who won her $100 at the
auction.
St. Patrick's Senior Center
Bulletin Board
There were approximately 100 people present for the dinner
at the senior center March 13. Seven meals were home delivered.
Members of the Baptist Church served. Sylvia McDaniels won
the meal ticket, Walter Joyce, the bingo ticket, and Sue Vinson
and Bethine Denton, the shamrock plant door prizes. The Senior
Center board met following the meal.
The menu for the birthday dinner Wednesday, March 27 will
be oven-baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, corn, muffins and
blueberries. Members of the Episcopal Church will serve.
The Senior Center St. Patrick's celebration projects were very
successful due to the volunteers who worked long hours at the
breakfast at the fairgrounds, and the soup, roll and pie luncheon
at the center. The group of young people from lone who helped
serve at the luncheon were terrific.
The quilt was raffled at the fairgrounds Sunday afternoon. The
lucky winner was Jeannette Townsend.
The movie, “ It Can Happen To You", was watched by three
ladies Sunday evening. Next Sunday, March 24, the movie will
be shown at 7 p.m. •
The Red Cross will hold a blood drawing in the afternoon at
the senior center Tuesday, March 26.
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) recognition party
for Morrow County will be held at the Stokes Landing Senior
Center Wednesday, March 27 at 6 p.m. The senior bus will leave
Heppner at 4:30 p.m. There are still a few seats available. Those
volunteers wishing to attend should sign up at the office before
Friday, March 22.
Teams from the local
AWANA club at Lexington
Baptist Church faired well in
regional com petitions of
knowledge and athletics, accor­
ding to a church news release.
The first event, taking place
at Pasco, WA, was Bible Quiz­
zing, with as many as 10 teams
from Pasco, Richland, Ahtha-
num, Kennewick, Moses Lake
and Walla Walla. Bible Quizz­
ing includes two events, a writ­
ten test on Bible knowledge
from the clubbers' handbooks
and a “Jeopardy” -like contest
where clubbers speed quiz
against other teams.
The Pals club team, compos­
ed of David Flynn, Johnny Col­
lin and Isaiah Stillman, took
first place against nine other
teams in the Pals competition.
Collin propelled his team on to
victory by answering three
questions correctly and “ quiz­
zing out" in the speed quiz
event.
The Pioneers team, compos­
ed of Darren VanCleave and
Heath Stillman placed sixth out
of 10 teams. The Guards team,
composed of Sheena Christ­
man, Heidi Kurts, Jannicl^a
McGuire, Emily Unruh and
Meaghan Unruh placed fifth in
a field of nine teams.
The next weekend, teams
from the AWANA club com­
peted in SPARKS-A-RAMA
and AWANA OLYMPICS,
athletic events centered around
the AWANA game circle taped
on the gymnasium floor.

The Sparks were the first on
the floor. “ Sparkies" who
made the trip to Pendleton as

Meghan Gaines, Abby Key,

A weekly morning prayer
group will form at lone United
Church of Christ beginning
Wednesday, March 13, . t 7
a.m. The group will meet every
Wednesday morning for half
an hour. Coffee will be provid­
ed.
The group will explore vari­
ous approaches to prayer and
meditation and serve as a
Christian support group. All
persons interested in prayer
discipline and fellowship are
invited to participate.
