Coffee Hour to
feature lots of
Irish Music
If you're looking for some
Irish music, don't miss the an
nual KUMA coffee hour this
Saturday during St. Patrick's
Day in Heppner.
The local favorite group
Sager and Doherty will once
again entertain the crowd with
it's brand of energetic Irish
music.
Also on the show this year
will be a barbershop quartet
singing several songs.
There will be Irish poems,
jokes and stories, and as usual
the show will be hosted by
Heppner's honorary Irishman
Ted Smith.
Chamber Chatter
By Claudia Hughes. Chamber Manager
Welcome, visitors, one and
all. 'Tis sure a wee bit of a rain
bow 'twill break through on
Friday with a pot o' 68 degree
weather for Heppner's annual
celebration. A schedule of
events and tickets will be avail
able to you at the information
booth beside the Post Office.
Friday at 3 p.m., the park
playground equipment will be
dedicated. Donations were
given by many entities, includ
ing the St. Patrick's Committee
in memory of Josey Sue Taylor.
Join us as the equipment is
dedicated for children to enjoy
for many years to come.
Rem inisce during Mrs.
O'Leary's stew feed Friday
evening. Then, ready or not,
visitors and volunteers start the
day early with breakfast,
followed by music from both
W eston-M cEwen and the
Barbershoppers on Main
Street.
The KUMA Coffee Hour will
feature the O'Sager-Doherty-
Duffy group, as well as some
of Heppner's own, singing and
playing those old Irish favorites
as the Irish family is honored.
After the parade, take a load
off at the Senior Center for
refreshments and Irish videos;
visit the museum to research
family history; or take a tour of
the courthouse. For those look
ing for a wee bit o'chance,
there's o'ducky adoption, col
lector buttons and a Ewe Doo
Bingo. Sheepdog trials, shop
ping and motorcross races add
to the fun.
For the wee ones, there's a
carnival or babysitting by a 4-H
group at the Methodist Church
while everyone enjoys "The
Irish Cowboy" or singing, dan
cing and sharing blarney
around town.
The Chamber of Commerce
will be challenging one and all
during the O'Shanty Race,
organizing the parade and run
ning the St. Patrick's auction
on Sunday. Breakfast in the
wee hours, or otherwise, fol
lowed by church of your
choice, then roping, a great
lamb barbecue and the annual
St. Patrick's Day auction will
bring the 14th annual celebra
tion to a close. The barbecue
and auction fund the South
Morrow youth scholarships
and the ongoing celebrations.
Enjoy and "may the luck o'
the Irish be with one and all." I
"a sketch” of the history of
Christianity in Ireland from its
pagan roots into the develop
ment of the Reformation. There
is a unique nature to Celtic
Christianity and its possible im
plications for the Church of to
day, said Father Miller.
All Saints' welcomes all the
St. Patrick's celebration visitors
to town and assures people
they are welcome for church on
any Sunday morning, said
Father Miller.
