lone Garden
Club meets
A video "Ruth Stout's Gar
den," was shown by Birdine
Tullís at the lone Garden Club
meeting at the home of Leila
Palmer on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
The video was an interesting
account of Mrs. Stout, who is
in her 90s. She told of her 35
years of gardening, which was
done with "very little work."
She eliminated all cultivating
such as spading and hoeing
and merely placed the seeds in
the ground and covered them
with a mulch of hay. She sug
gested using a little cotton meal
to give seeds a boost when
planting, and stated that she
raised enough vegetables for
her and her husband on a 45 x
50 foot garden plot.
Discussion was held on the
plant sale and Oregon Garden
Week observance. Julia Hill
was a guest for the day.
