Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday November 8, 1995 - THREE Children & Families commission meets FFA officers attend K.C. convention The monthly meeting of the Morrow County Commission on Children & Families will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14 at River side High School in Boardman from 7-9 p.m. Heppner High School (HHS) Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter officers Josie Pro ctor, Frank Martin, Mandi Gutierrez and Tina and Toni Kemp are in Kansas City for a w eek-long national FFA convention. The five students will par ticipate in workshops represen ting Oregon and the Blue Mountain FFA district, which includes Heppner, Condon, Mac High, Pendleton, Her- miston, Stanfield and River side. Instruc tors are needed for any type of exercise class such as aerobics, stretch and tone and weight lif ting in the south end of the county. Classes are held on weekday evenings using local school facilities. Instructors are paid an hourly rate. "The town was great about supporting us,” they said. - The students also plan to help support Zane Martin, former HHS FFA officer, who is receiving the American Farm er Degree, the highest FFA honor in the nation. Martin is also up for the Star Nation Award. Only five people are awarded nation-wide. The students were accom panied by former HHS vo-ag teacher and FFA advisor Bil Umbarger of Pendleton, and Chuck Miller and his wife of Hermiston. Last year's convention drew over 34,000 participants.
